newer alternative to the Evo 8/9?
i would totally consider 2010-11 audi s4 with diff or acura tl sh-awd. http://www.automobilemag.com/am/2010/audi/s4/
I don't know... I kind of feel like Tesla may just make a lot of cars (like most) obsolete. I would almost like to see you focus your considerable reverse engineering and coding talents on Tesla drive trains?
As the model S becomes accessible to more folks and/or if they install the model X AWD drivetrain into a more performance oriented vehicle I can see how custom torque vectoring and various racing/launch apps would be a lot of fun with 800+lbs of torque to mess with. They must have some diagnostic port... no one has let me near enough to one to paw over it.

just picked up a 14 Focus ST, the steering, brakes, and response feel very evo-like. I just needed a better daily driver while my X will be more of a track focused car. It was between this, a 12 MS3, or 13' WRX. I hated the MS3's exterior, but it had good power. The WRX handled like garbage; very 1st gen DSM ish around corners, but very good power for stock. Overall what did it for me was the interior, the space and the handling. now time to get rid of the wheel hop.......

I just read the press release on the 2015 Golf R - sounds like a major redesign. For sure it will be faster and handle better, but it apparently still lacks limited slip diffs. Instead, they use the brakes to control wheel spin in corners.
Check out the new Volvo polestar V/S60's. I am highly considering jumping ship to the V60. 350hp isn't much but it's a good base, awd and a wagon for practicality. The only thing that downs me is the tranny. I think I can deal with paddles if I had to though.

would very possibly be my go to if i were interested
Still a great car for what it is but the Golf R feels MUCH more sporty.
The S3 looks really nice. I'm waiting for it to get here and that might be what I get rid of the '14 Evo for.
