There has been talk on FocusRS that these RS's are using an older ECU software version of R08 versus R10 which is the current release according to Cobb. Perhaps this could be the source of the issue.

Cobb has their RS on the Dyno today and hopes to release their numbers tomorrow.

Right and in their rush to deploy the RS to the US perhaps changes were made.
Razor would be a good candidate to respond Evo X variances since he saw the results of the '08's to more current models.
Again we do not know what scrutiny the RS went under when imported here. Same applied when Evo came to US. It was not as released for JDM use.

Any word on how they will be tuned? I know its very early in the process, but can the ECU be tuned like the ST lineup?

Yup. Mitsubishi issued a newer ROM for the 2008 models and it fixed most of the issues and lower power that was shown on the dyno.

Which sounds a lot like what some people in this thread are currently calling whine one one about, over and over and over and over again like a F'in broken record.

may be conservative/rich, but there's nothing wrong with it anymore (didnt it used to misfire from the factory?)

sounds like there's something actually wrong with the tune or something - maybe something pulling back based on certain factors or whatever. i guess we'll find out tomorrow

COBB has a RS now so it will only be a matter of time before we see in the ROM. I'm looking forward to it, being very familiar with the Fiesta ST and Focus ST roms...
Maybe, but aren't the Euro Ford Focus RS models are also seeming to be a bit slow in comparison tests?

that's from one of the owners that was posting in that thread. sounds like a very frustrating experience to me - he's specifically talking about the pops/bangs or whatever, but he's one of the ones who's consistently had inconsistent performance from his fors
I wonder if the limp mode the journalists provoked was not just from the AWD system but also having to do with invoking the other safeguards? Maybe this is Ford's way of avoiding the more serious problem of possibly having a bunch of road-going RS's hitting limp mode.

one sad thing to see in a car like this.

this rear calipper with those pads etc is just very very cheap looking . I thought it will look ok for me based on pictures. I was wrong, def i dont like the look. Specifically with those big rims.

they look nice, but nothing what would pump your heart, like the sti etc. agresssive look. From out side the car looks more cheap than the STI or the 8 years old evo X in my opinion. Hopefully the performance etc will fade these things away.

In person its an okey looking car. I be honest i def. thought based on previous RS bodys the car would be look something more maybe?

nevertheless, they are here so soon we will see what they can do.

For those keeping track,

Kaizen stock RS dyno results:
Overboost run - 1st run the car made on the dyno. 290hp/320tq in overboost.
He was not able to recreate the 290hp run, and had multiple subsequent 250hp/290tq runs.
http://www.focusrs.org/forum/48-kaiz...s-rs-dyno.html

Kaizen thinks the inconsistent results are due to the Ford boost control strategy.
"... we sent in the ROM to Cobb about a week ago. Now we wait patiently to get this horrid Ford boost strategy out of the way."
http://www.focusrs.org/forum/9-focus...s-dyno-19.html

Mishimoto stock RS dyno results:
"Our runs revealed that the Focus came in at 252 horsepower and just over 283 torque." http://www.focusrs.org/forum/9-focus...-focus-rs.html

Cobb stock RS dyno results:
I will edit these in once they are posted.

from the whispers, seems like both cobb and ford know what it is causing it. I doubt this will be an issue for much longer - make no mistake, it is an issue though, but hopefully fixed very soon

Good to hear. I have no doubt that Cobb will get it sorted. But how long will it take Ford to issue an update that fixes it and maintains the car's warranty?

I think the bigger question is when the fix is done, what will you complain about?
