track car suggestions / discussion
haha, no I'm still here, didn't even buy and s2k yet or sell my mustang... the 'stang needs to go before buying the s2k. but I still have some time before track season really gets going. I live in Seattle, no interest in tracking in the wet, been there done that, no desire to repeat.
I just haven't been bumping this thread cause I'm settled on my track car, but if someone wants to keep the discussion going there's no reason to stop it...
I've been seeing AP1's under 10 all over the place... not sure why you're seeing prices that high. I'd expect only really clean low mileage AP1's to be that high

There is a "rebuilt title" that needs minor bodywork and paint for rust abatement for 7400 locally ROFL ROFL HAHAHAH
have you tried looking out of state? if they're that expensive locally it'd be a lot cheaper to find one out of state, fly out to look at it, and either drive back or have it shipped back
Here is a nice looking AP2 in Burlington, even has a good looking hard top. https://www.truecar.com/used-cars-fo...7-honda-s2000/
That's something I noticed too because a couple years ago it wasn't uncommon to see them at the <10K mark. But I guess I will keep looking...
Are there any Honda experts here? I was looking at the EK vs EP vs DC5 as a cheap track car to ship overseas and if it gets hit or damaged just bin it.

I'd stay away from EP and DC5. suspension geometry is crap, the whole "steering arm on the strut" design is crap, they're super sensitive to alignment and its easy to knock it out of spec (I had my RSX realigned after every track day). Turn in is abysmal unless you have absolutely perfect alignment, and even with perfect alignment its still just ok, and the perfect alignment doesn't last long. A lot of coilovers have issues with the bottom height adjust perch staying locked (back to steering arm on the strut thing).
for cheap track car I'd stay go EK or DC2 if you want fwd. otherwise AP1 s2k or Miata. if emissions wasn't an issue for me I'd be getting a Miata and supercharging or turbocharging it, but there's no way to make them run nice and smooth without an aftermarket ecu, and that means I can't pass emissions, so that's out for me...

IMO, the EK and DC2 were the last of the good-handling Hondas. i wouldn't own anything later. The EG-EK just had it right, as did the DC2.
all the people that make fun of FF cars just don't know LOL.

I know they have a really hard time usefully putting down 400+whp. So there's that. And the driving experience just isn't fun for me. I like steering the car with throttle/power. FF cars just don't do that.
i once saw a video where the ran the 2 vs 5 and the 2 still won. what a great car the DC2R is.
other than that, they turn really fast lap times with only 200-220whp or so.
i can definitely see how a FF car would not be furn for ya, though. it doesn't suit your driving style. i'm a driving *****, so i don't mind LOL. i've tracked/autoxed Neons, Integras, Mustangs, Evos, Miatas, RX-8s, and some other stuff i can't remember. i liked them all for different reasons. Figuring out a FF car and beating "faster" cars is a huge rush for me.
i do plan to own another '98 ITR one day. it was just too enjoyable of a car to not own another LOL.
