wonderful value, and I haven't had the chace to drive one, but I want to. I am always biased against fwd cars, but you can't argu with the dyno numbers 1/4 times that people throughout the US are putting down with these little rockets.

The nice thing about the Neon is you can do those times all day long. Try that with an AWD car and say so long to the tranny.

I will agee that based on he Neons drivetrain you are allowed more drag runs than an EVO.
I drove the SRT4 before I bought the Evo. I am not going to lie, the SRT4's power curve is much smoother than ours. It doesn't take 2 seconds for the turbo to start spooling. The one thing that I didn't like about it though was that the back seats didn't have power windows, as well as only FWD. Plus I told all my friends I was going to get the SRT4 and they told me , "Why do you want to get a Neon?" In the end everyone sees it just as a Neon, while others know what an Evo is

It's the same as the EVO 16g but with cheaper internals.

isn't it also true that evo's don't do too well in flat, humid conditions? or was it hot, dry conditions...
either way, the srt-4 is a nice car. wouldn't be surprised at all if you saw more of them taking the places of civics or integras.

The SRT-4 is a respectable car. A friend of mine has a black 03 (and yeah, he's pissed about the LSD diff this year) and loves it. He's done a few things to it already and I'd say his car feels as powerful as mine through the gears. With a 2.4L Turbo, I see lots of ways to improve the engine output, and fortunately for him, Mopar is doing a lot of factory-backed upgrade kits for the engine.
He has much respect for the EVO, though, as I do for his SRT-4. And even though I'm a Mopar/Dodge guy myself, I opted for the AWD rally car, and couldn't be happier that I did.
I own both, (this thread comes up much more often on the Dodge forums), I can be the one that tells you the difference.
The SRT-4 is a blast to drive. It's loud, smokes the tires and the BOV (through an AEM intake), is much louder than an Evo (through the intake).
The build quality (detail stuff) is where the $10K difference is.
Plastic where the Evo has aluminum, no power windows, etc..
The motor is actually over-engineered. I'm sure you could build a 400-500hp SRT-4 with stock internals.
The 1st gear is very short and useless in a launch, you have to shift in about 3/4 of a sec. From 2nd to 5th is very strong, it drops a bit on top (smaller turbo), plus the ecu pulls the boost down to around 10psi at redline. The seats are for skinny people, but very nice. The shifter is long and notchy. The torque steer (on 2003 models), sucks on uneven traction surfaces.
I took my Evo and a friend drove the SRT-4 (both stock at the time) to top speed on a long, straight (slightly uphill) road. Evo hit 158mph, SRT-4 hit 152mph (both indicated). Very impressive.
The handling on the SRT is no where near the Evo's. The brakes are good but not up to Evo standards.
Bottom line:
SRT-4: great bang-for-buck and loads of fun
Evo: Cutting edge handling, braking and higher quality build.
Both are good cars.
By the way, My SRT-4 insurance is higher than my Evo!

An EVO run worse than 13.8 ? wow those drivers need to learn to drive.
als0 ""The nice thing about the Neon is you can do those times all day long. Try that with an AWD car and say so long to the tranny. ""
Your not gonna lose your TRANNY, but your clutch will probably go, but that happens in BOTH CARS , until you buy a good aftermarket clutch, then feel free to launch all you want.
Als0, 'what we could do with 10G left over' You can only do so much, considering your car is FWD, its limits are already set to around 400hp, and thats with drag tires, 350 is aronud the max you'll be able to pull on street tires and still get traction.
Any more HP than that, even with drag tires and your not going to be going anywhere.....
The cars really good for the price, YES, but its cheap because its only got so much potential. And doesnt posess nice features like EVOs[ an amazing AWD system, great tires and brakes, unparalled handling... it slaloms faster than a z06. ]
And if we EVER get the S-AYC, and ACD in USA you'll really need to watch out, as our twisty raping abilities[speed and grip in corners] will go up about 25% + [ guesstamite ]

I too test drive the neon before buying the Evo. In my wife's words "oh my god, you're going to kill us." Yeah, it's fast. It's also an incredible value, especially the 2004 with the LSD. Loud, firm and fast about sum it up.
Let me say that I still think the Evo is worth the increased price over the SRT-4, especially after owning mine. Hell the brakes alone are almost worth it!
But to me if you are shopping in the $20,000 range, you are a dumbass if you get anything BUT an SRT-4. If you have problems with it being "a neon" you obviously haven't driven one because you forget that fact once you drive it.

I believe the Evo is awesome, absolutely no doubt about that. (thatĄ¯s why I want it so badly) However, I also believe that the SRT-4 is a tuff choice to make for the money. And I think as an Evo owner, it might irk you to know that some high school kid car can keep up with you at the strip. (Its not like the Evo is going to totally annihilate the Neon). Its probably the same feeling that the Porsche, Audi, BMW and Corvette drivers got when you pulled your Evo up to them....
Kind of like that scene from Fast and Furious where the supra and Ferrari run at it.

Are you sure that the SRT was completely stock? It may have had the Mopar Stage 1. Regardless, it's FWD which is the wrong wheel drive no matter how much power is put down. But a really great buy for about 20K.
As fo the original post in this thread;
If I drive both my cars, I can go quicker, faster, stop quicker, and out handle the SRT in the Evo.
The guy that got beat at the strip (assuming stock VRS stock), wasn't driving his Evo correctly.
In stock form, they aren't far off in 1/4 miles times, but the Evo still wins. The SRT was made for designed for stop light racing, (fast and Furious stuff), the Evo is a proven Rally car.
(They also race the SRT in rally now, different class.)
If you only have $20K get the SRT, if you have $30K get the Evo, if you have $50, get both!
My SRT-4 is actually my wife's car, but I still love driving it.
She doesn't drive mine since she totaled my first one, (rememeber, the 1st totaled Evo in the states, (Mar 11 2003), two days old, 325 miles on it!)
