i totally agree with that, the engine is great, the heritage of the car (aka neon) is somewhat questionable. I think Dodge should have put the engine in a completely new car, but then it would have been hard to stay at that 20k price tag..but im sure Dodge could have done it.

I found a thread that outlines a lot of the engine tech specs and found it to be quite interesting. There is also a little engine management info which outlines some neat data, including the fact that it does not use a conventional MAF arrangement for A/F management.

Here's the link to the thread:

Comon its easy to see whats goin on here! The evo driver was hesitant even in the first place to run! Obviously he's timid to really push the evo and the way he sees it... he got free gas money from the dumbass so why waste it!? if you ask me the SRT-4 is the one that got screwed!

Boofreakingya. Great find. They essentially took the SCC article and wrapped it in HTML.

2 things which wouild keep me from buying it:

1. Rear Crank Windows
2. The long shifter - just looks really stupid and doesnt feel right to me

I have a good friend that has one and its quick, but those two things just kill it for me.

Yeah? Gee sorry bud..I was just sharing some info and didn't realize it would upset your arrogant ***. Yeah its pretty obvious where it came from but thanks for your insight...... and the condescending attitude.

Edit: Mis-read pjal84's reply at the end of an ugly depressing day. It always feels good to wake up with a foot in your mouth!

My sincere apologies pjal84!

You do realize I was genuinely excited about that link don't you? After spouting about that article to all the folks who simply bash on the Neon for (insert whatever reason here), I can point them to the link and say "That's all that matters in the end." Regardless, still a great link.

pjal84 -

My apologies if thats the case....it just looked like you were saying "big deal, this is old news...... who cares" . I did have a really bad day yesterday so my apologies regardless, as I am typically not that thin-skinned. Also see edit above!

N10S....living up to the name I'm afraid

really? You'd overlook all that performance cuz of rollup windows in a seat that you won't even sit in? And you can get a short shifter with urethane bushings for $100 and it's a 30 minute install. I would have still got the SRT even if all the windows were crank....I actually wish they all were....saves weight and it's less to **** up. I've never been a fan of power anything inside a car really.......no power seats, windows, mirrors, or doors is fine with me.

loj68....As an owner, have you had time to find any major weak points in the car? With the Evo, the stock clutch certainly comes to mind as a possible weak link depending on how you drive the car. I have heard the SRT4's motormounts are one possible issue, and , and I just wondered if the SRT4 has any other areas of concern? I really like the car a lot, and if I could upgrade the suspension a bit, I might seriously considered picking one up.

Dodge is not sophisticated or stylish in their approach, but they really do support the whole mod thing much better than any other marque. They can really pull out all of the stops when throwing together a performance special like the SRT4, thats for sure.

Also, I'm wondering how the Neons motor would hold up to hp increases....
they actually get something better, factory supported stage upgrades.....now that is priceless.

imagine Mitsubishi releasing Stagee power upgrades via Ralliart and still within the bounds of the warranty...? Same goes with Subaru with a Prodrive or even teh Cobb tuned cars that are warrrantied in the past (although more so outside of the US)

now that is cool...

Yeah but look at you now, from your profile you already drive two of the better compact sedans out there! You hit it right on though as far as the creature comforts the SRT is supposedly lacking. Look at the Evo RS in its past forms that had crank windows, no climate control, no stereo, and no Brembos I believe if the customer didn't request them along with steel wheels (obviously if someone was building a track car, they could buy better componentry) etc. but had everything someone building a fast car needed: the engine and tranny with all the sporty differentials. Then the RS-II came out to kind of bridge that gap to theeverday driver GSR trim. The RS Evo that the State's are going to see is more of a RS-II trim and borderline GSR. As far as the Mopar power upgrades, those are indeed priceless given what they can do in relation to still being factory friendly.
