One of 3 things happened here:

1) The geek bribed him with a little more than just gas money.

2) It's the geek's buddy drivin the EVO.

3) Depends on what your definition of "slightly modded" means.

Because I am the GSM of a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership, and I sell those things. And I'm here to tell you there ain't NO WAY a "slightly modded" SRT-4 is gonna spank an EVO like that.

I'm leaning more towards option 1 or 2, because who do you know that owns an EVO that would be a glutten for that much punishment? That's the real question.

I dunno......there's a slightly modded SRT (intake and exhaust) that runs 12's at the track.....lots of vids to prove it. If it's stock for stock then the EVO should take it but once you throw mods into the mix the SRT gets real fast real quick.

...umm just like every other car out there

the evo is VERY mod-friendly

where are these videos? I wanna see a high 13 second srt get into the 12s with just an exhaust and intake. I bet the SRT increased it's boost to get those numbers (nothing wrong with that, but it should be noted)

Did you see how bad that SRT-4 pulled from the EVO?

That was like watching an EVO race a Ford Escort or something. A slightly modded SRT-4 would be a much closer race than that (EVO still ontop IMO). According to what we saw, that EVO got a major ***-whoopin!

And seriously, would you keep climbing back into the ring just to get knocked back through the ropes?

If you have ever driven an SRT-4 you would know what I am talking about, they are a real dog in comparison to the EVO.

lol.....check my sig....I actually own an SRT-4. I test drove EVO's and judging by pure "seat of the pants" they feel as though they accelerate about the same but I know in all the pro reviews that the EVO is typically a full second faster than the SRT in a 1/4 mile and I wouldn't doubt it. I think regardless of the mods in either car, the guy in that EVO in the vid must have just been a **** driver cuz I agree that it should have been closer.

As for the 12 second SRT's, here's a link to the thread on our forum where people post their fastest timeslips and vids. I think it's a total of 7 SRT drivers in the 12's and most have just a BOV, exhaust, and a Stage 1 kit (which is stock on the 2004's)

The SRT I raced was slightly modded and I had no problem putting enough car lengths on himm to see his whole car in my drivers side mirror. He had intake, EBC, BOV, empty bottle of nitrous, and a couple of other things.

I agree that the SRT's get fast with mods, but the EVO responds just as good if not better. My buddy has a 2000 Si with a Greddy kit on it. His fastest time before going with Hondata was a 8.1 @ 84 mph with slicks. There is a local guy (I think he has his times posted in the link above) with a sivler SRT that runs about the same as my buddies Si with just intake, MBC, wastegate mod, and 3" exhuast. The last time I seen him he ran a 7.5 @ 94 mph with the mods listed and a 100 shot. His car is damn fast, but I would like to see it run in the 7's without the 100 shot.

I see three and they are heavily modified:
1. 12.423 @ 111.97| 1.863 | 26x6x15 Drag slicks | Route 66 Dragway, IL | Mopar S1, T3T4E turbo, log manifold, DM Motor mounts, Tial 35mm WG, Full 3" turboback exhaust, Nitrous Express 75 shot (WET) and Blackdog CAI | Redsrt4me

2. 12.883 @ 110.77 | 2.067 | 225/50/15 g-force drag radials on 15x7 SSR Comp. | Atco Raceway, VA | Mopar S1 , Psi-Fi PowerPaq ECU , removed the cat, Manual boost controller, AGP wastegate actuator, "hi low" springs and Rex motor mount inserts | Psi-Fi Motorsports

3. 12.943 @ 110.67 | 2.055 | BFG DR's on Rota 15x6.5" Subzeros | New England Dragway, NH | Stage 1, K&N drop in filter, REX Motor mount Inserts,Screamin Demon Coil,Crane FireWires,3" Prototype Turboback Exhaust,AGP wastegate, AGP BOP, ATP UPP and TXS RFL BOV | SRTGURL

and the slower ones most all list:"Exhaust removed after Cat, Pass seat and spare removed " -- "(Spare , Backseat and a few other small items removed for weight redux) "

NIce to see the big money spenders break out of the 13s, but those cars are not very streetable anymore I'd bet. Most of the 11s Evos are still handling fiends on the road racing circuits. They don't have to give up road racing lap times for 1/4 mile times, or even back seats or passanger seats...

15" wheels?? You cant even fit 16s on an Evo. That SRT must have small rotors. What size wheels and tires come stock on an SRT?

Ok, I am now officially sick of all this, and I want to vent. Why are all these people so obcessed with drag racing, especially in an Evo? I mean, come on, why is the Evo so much better than a Mustang GT, or a Camaro Z28, or any other car of that nature? It isn't because we are faster in a strainght line than them (even though we are), it's because when we turn the steering wheel, the car actually responds. I'm getting really sick of people asking me "how fast is your car in the quarter mile" and similar questions.

Ok, The SRT-4 goes good in a straight line. Now turn the wheel under throttle. Go ahead, do it. Do it more. What do you mean you're already in a ditch? The Neon, cool. It's quick, great. It's a Neon. I don't think those cars would really be looking all that good 5 years down the road. How many of you have seen Neons with huge paint chips missing from the sides of them? Yeah, and we all thought Mitsubishi paint sucked....

The Evo is an awesome car because it combines so many great qualities. Quick, room for lots of people, handles great, fun to drive, doesn't hurt you to look at it. The Neon....um...It's quick, and I guess you can put 4 people in it, if you can find 3 others that would be seen in a Neon. The Evo is inherently fast in the quarter mile because of how it is built. The Neon is only quick in the quarter mile. I think anyone who owns or likes Neons and watched this video and thought it was a true testament as to how things are and who has the better car is grossly mistaken.

Good car for less than $20,000...That is true. Until they start acting like bastard children.

Back to my #3 option.

I'll give the Neon the benefit of the doubt, maybe it is "slightly modded"... with a 200 shot of n2o.

Come on guys, you gotta admit that the SRT-4's are fast. Great car for $20K. I haven't yet lined up against one but I'm sure I'll run across one sooner or later and we'll see how it ends. But quit calling them "American POS", and **** like that, their good cars, I don't believe they are up to par with an EVO but an EVO also costs $10K more, so be fair. I've had plenty of American cars and most of them were good vehicles, times have changed, these aren't the cars of the 70's.
Now, as for the video I think it's a setup. If you watch the first race between the SRT and the EVo you can almost tell that the guy in the EVO let off the gas about 2 seconds into the race, it's obvious. I'm not saying that he completely shut it down but I think he eased off the throttle. I'm just saying that the gap between the two is too large to be believed. If you notice in the race from a stop the SRT doesn't burn out hardly at all but he is all over that EVO in about 1 second?? Come on, if that SRT was powerful enough to walk away from ANY 13 second car like the video shows then it would light em up on the start, even on a rolling start below say 20mph it would light those tires up! So props to the SRT guy for having a blazing fast car but I think the video doesn't show the true facts. Just my two pennies.............

AUstin - very true. the SRT4 is a good and a real performance bargain! The annoyance and frustration is with the the lack of facts and truth. Like this video which doesn't tell the whole truth.. and the claims of stock SRT4s running 12.5s 1/4 miles.. I think most of the mature folks here recognize the SRT4 as a good car. not a pos by any means. I think we all here also recognize the Evo as a good car capable of much more than the SRT4, on a rally course, road course and even around town or launching and shifty shifty stuff. ANd that's most liekly why it costs an extra $10k.

Why doesn't a stock evo owner go find a SRT-4 and do a video from in the cab of the evo....You can even do multiple cameras like they do in those Japanese videos, showing the pedal position in the corner, the tach in the the other corner, and the car-to-car angle on the big screen....then have the SRT-4 owner do the same? I am sure that enough people can get together and make this happen, since lots of evo owners are interested in drag racing their cars, and since the SRT-4 owners are obviously looking at us as their main competition.

Then we might see the reality of the situation.

Until then, I will just laugh at all of the SRT-4 owners who post videos like this clown did.
