New Supra Specs and Pricing
well looks like there's hope...
2 things
its basically the reverse 911 effect, where they purposely neuter the cayman so the 911 is better. here they don't offer the manual to protect the stupid 86 with its asthmatic engine
that part at the end where he's quoted "I'm getting the message" about the manual. how did his dumbass not already know about this?

The car is automatic-only for cost reasons only. They carbon copied the existing Z4, which offers the same transmission, but the chief engineer's argument is asinine. Nobody is cross-shopping the new $55k Supra against the $25k 86. A person who passes on the Supra because it lacks a 'real' transmission option isn't going to buy a manual transmission 86 because it's the next best thing. They are going to be buying something else that's in the Supra's price bracket. On the other end, nobody who is shopping for an 86 is going to gravitate towards the Supra, they are two totally different types of car buyer. Toyota has to know this thing is a dud, and they have to be scrambling to come up with another option.
Only because the lack of manual transmission. I think if the Supra had a 6spd, they could upsale a few BRZ buyers. Not a lot, but a few. Likewise, some people that may have been interested in a Supra may now settle for a BRZ because it's more fun to drive (from that "purist" point of view).
The second point, well...the FRZ twins will be in their NINTH model year when the 2020 Supra comes out (8th model year in NA). It's already stale, and sales are falling off. People who refuse the new-and-uninteresting Supra won't flock to the old-and-uninteresting FRZ twins.

Don't underestimate the average "car guy"s desire to impress their friends. Not everyone that goes into a dealership scans the brochures and reads the stats. If they don't get a Supra then they could always buy an 86 and spend money on parts. Don't forget a lot of people out there buying cars aren't about getting all the horsepower they can for their dollar. They just want to look cool driving into the McDonald's parking lot. Supra or Rocket Bunny 86? Either works for them.

True.dat. Cant even show up with a boosted BRZ and get anyone to look twice these days. All about latest and greatest and whats new and hot. But thats the cars-n-coffee crowd for you. Seems my the evo gets attention not cause its an evo but because it has a big dumb wing (not the evo wing) so people thing hey maybe something interesting here. Of course even though I have 500hp and built everything, the engine looks clean and stock-ish. So no then no one cares
