Mk V Supra - My Evo's Replacement?
So they're only making 500 MT Supras?!

Not that I was really serious about buying one right now, but it's the only new car that excites me these days. They are probably all going to be snatched up by collectors at exorbitant prices and stashed away for 30 years.
These sound amazing with the Tomei Ti! It would be my first mod tbh even though a loud CBE with little power gains is kind of ricer lol At least you'll save some weight

Ironically they will sell few manuals as most people crying about the lack of the manual still won't buy a supra.. because internet.
Backing up isn't really an issue between the mirrors and the backup camera. The real issue I have is left turns. If I am too far forward on a left turn I can't see **** out the right of the car. I almost got annihilated the first month I had the car. Now I remember to stop a little short of an intersection if I am turning left so I can still see any oncoming traffic.
Also, you have to duck down at some stoplights to see if the light turns green since the front windshield is the height of a ship port hole.
It's a substantial change from big green house sedans but I got used to it. After a track day weekend, when I hop back into the GTI, I feel like I am driving a bus.

And I'm not ******* on anyone that got the auto as I'm aware the trans is good I'm just a die hard stick shift guy. I passed my driving test in a manual trans car 17 years ago and have been driving them ever since.
It was lazy of them not to offer it imo, especially since they just had to go to the BMW parts bin to make it happen. Again, I'm not at all serious about getting one but it does change my attitude towards the car from a hard no to a maybe someday. I'm still kind of in this 4-door family race car mindset which is why I bought the Evo, but a modern, balanced RWD platform with a 400hp I6 turbo and a 6 speed is just so tempting.

if I only had one toy, I'd probably prefer MT. Maybe.
If only it was that easy. Plus, you literally admitted you aren't going to buy one now, even though you probably said you would if it had a manual.
I've driven manual for 30+ years. Years of driving manual has nothing to do with it.
Tell me you don't know how new car development works without telling you don't know how new car development works.
If only it was that easy.
Enlighten me. So it took more effort/money/testing/etc., we all know that. But we also know it was easy enough for them to cave in and offer it even after all the trolls on the internet screamed. Regardless, there was clearly a good enough reason for them to offer it.

You just never know though, right? This car has been growing on me and with a manual trans its a solid maybe. Did any of you guys foresee yourselves in a Supra a year or two ago when you were deep in your Evos?

Surely it can be a testament to your driving preference over the years that may have changed. You're obviously older than me so ask yourself what you would have went with in your early/mid 30's? I've driven paddle shifters and its just not for me. On track with lots of hp it makes sense but I'm not a big track guy so that may have something to do with it.

That is not lazy to me. That takes a ton of money and time.
Did you make the same statement about the new C8 corvette?
I owned two automatic performance cars in my 30's. A Mitsubishi and a VW.
I currently own two automatics and one manual.
Yes, I disliked the Supra when it first came out before I had seen one in real life or driven one. As soon as I saw how much better they look in real life I was interested but the fact that it was a "slushbox" still made me suss. Then I drove it and that all went out the window. Then I saw how fast they could be on track, how stout the motor was and how easily it could make power and I bought one.
Ironically the Supra is the longest it's taken me to tune a car ever. It's still stock power wise but as fast as a GT4 on track. I was actually seriously thinking of a GT4 before this but the Supra has fulfilled what I wanted from the GT4 at about half the price. I read Toyota was targeting the Cayman when they developed the Supra. I say they accomplished that and more.
I also would still pick the auto over the manual if I was looking at supras now. It's that good.

In 2022 there really is no performance or reliability case to be made for a manual transmission. Really it's about the kind of experience you want to have, and how much performance/consistency/reliability you are willing to sacrifice to get it.

Normally I'm 100% on the "fun" side, but the Supra managed to sway me. I NEVER thought I'd by an auto sports car.
But I also think it's only fair to reiterate this is not my only car, so I can row gears any time I want.
A couple months ago I had 5 manual trans vehicles. Now I have 0.... No more fun for me
