IN EVO Spotted Thread
In other news, I was out at Mid Ohio Raceway this weekend just to see whats up. (My car is not yet prepped and will hopefully be ready for Putnam Park in mid May). But I did meet some friends and made a few new contacts and connections. Learned a lot from a super experienced instructor who has been racing since 1975 and gave me rides in his 2008 C6 Z51. It was bone stock, and fast enough to scare the avg person, not to sound cocky
, but coming from a built stroker evo it wasn't anything I hadn't felt before
It think he expected that I hadn't felt 1-2G lateral G-forces before and was surprised when I could cope with his best, and took me under his wing. I spent pretty much the whole weekend with him learning everything from braking technique to suspension setup tips, and racing line adjustments based on vehicle. It was great, and all for the hefty cost of $Free.99
It was fun to see the difference in racing line and brake/throttle inputs between a high powered RWD car and an Evo. The low end torque in the vette meant 3rd and 4th gear only, so very little shifting, compared to the frantic shifting in the evo. The smooth torque delivery masks the speed. You don't feel the slamming back in the seat like you do with an evo. But then you look down and the vette is kooking up 160mph in the back straight...
And speaking of Evos there was also a sweet Time Attack evo 8 that was at the track too. I took some pics
He had a mild engine setup with basic boltons, stock internals, 2.0L with FPred pushing about 400whp on E85. However he had the heavy awesome RobiSpec KW V3 coilovers, and a lot of serious suspension work. He was by far the fastest AWD car on the track, easily kutting 5 seconds a lap faster than the stock C6 (both cars on street tires). He was out for shakedown/testing for the first time this season with new turbo and ethanol setup so we never even got to see him go all out.

In the morning it was cold so some men had activated a propane heater. This random scoobaroo sti man accosted the heater and proceeded to grill hotdogs that he had impaled on his Philips head screwdriver. I had to take pics it was quite an amusing sight. His pose was so bum-like!
