Firming-up the St.Louis Dyno Day date(s)
Just a heads-up on the Works GB re-flash session. Having personally installed the P2 last night, I can tell you the car is running great! Slight boost spike to about 19.8-20psi, then held boost at 19psi through redline! Very smooth with excellent drivability. The P2 & hose assembly is very nicely packaged, and you would be extremely hard-pressed to tell the new from the stock assembly.
The actual install of the hose assembly, takes a bit of time to perform, particularly if you haven't had the air box and compnents off previously. For someone with the right tools and the right mechanical aptitude the install takes about 20-30 minutes to perform. It took me about 25 minutes including re-installation of the ECU, and reconnecting the battery power. Getting the on-site reflash will mean the ECU won't have to be removed either, which will keep the work required fairly focused.
I would like to get a couple of local volunteers to meet with me prior to the dyno day to review the install logistics so we can help folks get this done. It may require doing a baseline early-on then doing the install then re-running the dyno afterwards.
I have had a few people interested in knowing what flexibilities they have regarding trying the re-flash out before buying. David with Works did mention originally that he would flash a car, then allow the customer to drive the car and decide if they wanted it or not. With the added complexity of the hose assembly this "demo" offer will still be available, but only with the P1 as this can be re-flashed without the hose assembly being added. If the customer likes it, then they can get re-flashed with the P2 , or they can keep the P1 if that is the product they were originally interested in.
What we don't want, is to go through the hassel and time to install the P2 then have to rip everything back apart and re-install the original hose, and stock maps. There simply won't be enough time to do this. Hope this helps clarify things.

Ron has a BBQ pit we can use at the dyno location, and I will be there next week to check things out first hand.
slt, maybe you, boom29, and turbopoo2000 and I could get together next week to discuss logistics for the Nov 1 event.

As a prelude to the Works re-flash activities, I wanted to provide some decent reference detail regarding the Brain Flash development process, and the Works tuning philosophy. It is easy for people to simplify ECU tuning by saying all you have to do is change a little code. Its much more difficult to guarantee reliable and repeatable results while still providing an optimized tuning solution.
I have attached a link that some may, or may not have seen on the Works site. It is worth the read, and helps underscore the Works methodology as well as their commitment to providing well-engineered fully tested products.

plz let me know if you have to roll-over, for me there are 3-4 hr drive, since i am in the very last of the list, plz let me know ahead before i go, i can't spend the whole weekend on my car.
also, great story about the STI chased, do you think you can go dyno your car before the gb?
what else mod do you have?
-Ben
thanks
I'll be in Texas Nov 24-27th, so I can't get together next weekend. I'm having people over to my house Sunday to watch the Rams game - if anyone is close to I-270 and Granite City, PM me for directions - would love to have ya!
Any other date would work for me.

N10S, I have a few questions about the Dyno. I know that earlier we had spoke about if you wanted to do some tuning that you would need to alot more time. I just wanted to ask the question before we get there. How much time and cost would it be for me to do dyno with tuning? Would we have time? I definatly don't want to be a hold up. I would be driving up on sunday and plan on staying to whole day so let me know if this is possible without being a pain in the butt . You know that Iam in for the dyno regardless but I was thinking if I am doing that I might as well be getting a tune also if cost and time wasn't a issue. I have heard several people talk about Timming changes making better power at a more consertive AF ratio. If you need my mods please let me know but they are a typical setup that many other have.

I don't think a roll-over day will be required, but I will let you know. Now that I have more info on time required with the re-flash and hose install I will be working through the logistics of who can dyno when, and the amount of time required.
I do plan on taking my car next week for a preliminary dyno run. My car has the Works Exhale muffler delete pipe, and the P2....thats basically all I have on my car right now.
Btw Ben, I use to own a Turbo S Beetle as well
Silver, lowered w/Bilstein coilovers on Polished 17" BBS RC's. Nice ride, and great interior!! N10S

During a discussion with Ron, regarding tuning with an emanage, Ron felt that if the person had some pretty good baseline settings then maybe 1.5-2.0 hours. I think if it were simply tuning an SAFC this would be more straightforward and take less time.
We are going to have three groups of people at this dyno-day. The one group will be those getting the P1/P2 upgrade, another group with relatively stock cars with a combination of maybe exhaust, intake, and boost control, and the last group will be those using some kind of piggyback that controls fuel, timing, and/or boost.
The P1/P2 won't require tuning time, but if the owner wants a stock baseline then re-dyno with the re-flash then there will have to be a before and after run, as we cannot leave the car sitting on the dyno while we change-out the hose assembly and re-flash.
The folks with regular intake, exhaust, and boost control mods will be the most straightforward, then the one s with the piggy-backs will have to stay on the dyno the longest. I am going to throw out a tentative dyno schedule post soon and will ask you guys to take a look at the info. This effort will require a bit of juggling, but should be able to be completed in one day.
