Trailer info? I'm thinking a proper aero setup will lead me to an upgraded trailer.

Are the air-bagged trailers reasonably priced?

^Nope I saw quotes of like 9k for an 18" open trailer on bags. Slick setup but not worth it at all IMO

Bummer. They are the answer to all our problems, but I guess they know that

im looking into a futura trailer at the moment. quite pricey but a cool alternative to airbagged trailers and means i can load directly on without removing splitter

www.futuratrailers.com

It all depends on which trailer im borrowing or using currently to weather i can get on without taking splitter off. usually if its a tilt trailer we block up the rear of the trailer so it doesnt tilt too far then extend the ramps out so that the angle is small enough you can just drive on.

Blocks off wood and experimenting is the only way to work it out really. or buying an expensive trailer.

I really like the marketing/videos for the Futura, but it seems to be similar price range as the other solutions on the market.

Here is another "bagged" trailer. Pretty sure this is a >9k open trailer.

the futura seems to be a better solution to me, i've seen one in person at the track. it use winch cable to raise and lower the trailer and lock into place, once it's raised up and doesn't rely on cable tension. the air bag system i more complex with house and air pump. if you have a leak in the system, you could be sitting on the side of the road.

the trailer I saw had locks, like a lift, that they trailer would rest on. The airbags weren't used the whole time. Not the same design I guess.
I would not trust a trailer that relied on airbags to keep the bed up. Could you imagine a failure? LOL

What's with the distrust in air bags? Sure it adds some complexity but its not like that technology isnt used everyday. Think of all the semis on the road. Those trailers are riding on air bags. Hell, their brake systems are air brakes. My 1/2 ton has factory air ride and I personally don't drive around paranoid that the system will spring a leak and leave me stranded. Maybe its just me but I certainly woulnd't lose sleep over it.

The types of airbags on the trailers are the same I've seen on regular pick ups. I've personally seen three blow, heard stories of many more.
Floor jack + block of wood to drive home LOL.

I would not hesitate to use airbags. They are proven reliable item.

I've heard of, and have had, coil and leaf springs brake. That doesn't mean I'm going to never use them.
Hell, I've heard stories of people's engines blowing. Should just ride a bike everywhere. But wait, I hear the inner tubes blow out in those. Maybe I should just stay home, but then I've heard stories of peoples' houses catching on fire......

^Lol my point exactly! I almost said the exact same thing about leaf springs. Not like a spring or shackle has never snapped. A couple months ago a coworker come over to me and told me his truck was making a banging sound. I walked outside to the parking lot with him and looked under the truck and found a snapped leaf spring.

Can an air bag spring a leak? Of course it can! But that doesnt mean its any less reliable than say a leaf spring.

i would think there's a difference between air bag system designed by auto manufacture vs an aftermarket system. my 4runner tow vehicle has factory rear airbag and i dont have issues trusting it.

Um.. okay.

Anyway, These were all relatively new bag systems installed on show vehicles that were maintained and well taken care of. Not exactly farmer John's work truck.
I'm not saying you guys have to beware them. Do what ya want. Some of us prefer to have a safety back up in case they fail. I've been at a shop that had a regular stream of customers come in with air bag issues. I'm basing my opinion on that. I'm not a fan, but that's just me (see sig )
