2008 Street Mod Discussion
how much power do you make on e-85 compared to alky? how is the quality on the ets parts? i want to see it take pics!
here is a before and after dyno tune on a evo IX with mild modifications...

scroll down the page a bit, the dyno charts are posted there.

I had basically a net gain of 0 going from alky to e-85 and installing all the IC parts. That may change if I can manage to run above 23psi, but it's been a nightmare getting the spark issues worked out. I hadn't seen anyone post about having tons of spark blowout issues, but now what I've posted about it, people are saying it happens all the time. As of this afternoon, I have improved it and been able to raise boost, but it's not 100% yet.
I'll have pics after I get everything situated and get the car cleaned up. The quality of the ETS parts is top-notch.

Running stock ecu and stock spark plugs and 30psi on E-85 with only a Sun Auto ignition box like pictured above. . . never had any ignition issues at all. Good luck getting it worked out!
People are having all sorts of problems with spark on E-85 especially at high boost, so if all it takes is an ignition amplifier, then that will be great. I'm about to buy a used HKS DLII, so hopefully that will do the trick.
No, I'm not sure, and that may be the problem. I just now finally got some logs by downloading Mitsulogger (never could get EvoScan 2.1 to work), and now that I see my logged wideband AFRs, I'm seeing readings in the low 10s during spoolup and peak boost, which is where I'm having the sputtering problems. I've now gapped my plugs really low, and it's not sputtering, but I'm rich and knocking as soon as spool begins, and although the AFRs climb to the mid-11s, the knock continues lightly through the whole pull.

Sun Auto Japan/USA didn't pay us to dyno test their Hyper Force System.
We wanted to test this just to see if it will work like it says after seeing dyno charts in Japanese car magazines (Hyper Rev and Option/Option2, etc)
The test was done on an evo ix w/ just 2.75 tanabe downpipe and HKS Hiper Exhaust.

There is absolutely no tuning or tweakin' of anything what so ever. Straight plug n play and you gain the power instantly.

Clay, I didnt see your thread on your E85 tune, but are you just running stock coils? I know t hat the richer A/F ratio of ethanol tunes, and the properties of ethanol hurt spark performance, and the evos have weak stock coils.

unless you're really just reading a lambda in the .8 range and then converting to afr using the gasoline stoich reference. if that's the case then nevermind.

Pretty sure he's referring to gasoline equivalent numbers. . .
Yeah, gas corrected lambda values, since those are more universally understood.
Things are in much better shape now where I can run all out in all gears without sputtering and this is at higher boost then when I dyno'd after the mods, so I think it's safe to say I am now realizing gains over the previous setup, but I don't plan to get back on the dyno to verify for a while. We'll see how she holds up at Fontana on Friday!

oh well that's what the edit function is for.
