I think bc of u im gonna take a plasma cutter to my car and start cutting away at it and make it lighter and I also want to look into getting rid of some of the flashy things and make it legal for track events. I really dont know much about. Do u know where I can research as far as legal cages/seats/harnesses and helmets? Thanks
thank you ! It is a always a real good feeling when fellow racers give you a compliment.
If i am right you car was one of the crowed favorite down there

About rules , think really through which kind of racing you would like to do in the future.
Make sure you want to do that one more times before you start.
Then pick the BEST possible race organizations which runs the events you like. Also keep in mind the distances for the track they hold events.

Then look up the organization website. ALL those clubs - organization , they have a rule page you can go with.

Then if you run into build problem , there is always a GREAT shop to go, if you want to have a REAL race car...

Rob

ps you might want to download the ralliart website rally car build page, so you will not cut out parts which will weakens greatly the car structure. Even though we have a cage it is still a very important step to have a great chassis for build and racing:
you want the final weight reduction ideas from page 46th , and the for the caging page 11th, everything else before is very obvious. Also if you look closely the pictures you will also see where you can do the removal safely:

^^^ thanks Rob. I have an autopower 6point cage and im not sure if i can make it legal if i get rid of "bolts" and make it weld on car. Im not sure what kind of racing I want to do, but its def a waste of money to just let it sit in the garage 99.99% of the time. I think for now I might just want to get my feet wet at raceway park with getting my license and maybe hit up NJMP for some faster tracks... I know I have A LOT of research to do. I read through the NJMP website rule book and it has their rules for all types of racing they do down there. I think i might just have to look into the cage issue and get newer harnesses that are dated and approved.

i would sell the auto pwer bolt in, specially yours... since its yellow. People will bite on it. just make pics before you take it out.
NJMP is an awesome track and many organizations run it.

if you need help pm me i try my best , but the better idea is talk to some road racers since that is you path a way i see it.

Anyway , if you need anything just pm me.

if you build a cage, build it to NASA/SCCA wheel to wheel racing specifications, that way no matter where you go or what type of racing you eventually land in you should pass tech. Rally cages may be different tho...that's Rob's area of expertise

i am not an expert, i just leave it for the right people. But thanks for a credit
He will over shoot with a rally cage, but he think to do rally then it is the only option then. Other wise your suggestion is the best.

I would think that the M3 is more expensive to track...why'd you say that you sold the Evo to go the cheaper route?

Between car insurance, car payments, parts etc. I would agree with you 100% if I had an e46 but when somthing brakes on the e36 parts are really cheap conisdering most parts you can use off of a reg. 3series,
