Just curious what allowable weight reduction is allowed that doesn't replace parts or affect safety scraping up sound deadting material. Other than a seat that weighs more than 25# seems to be the only thing mentioned.

Check out the old STU threads. I think some of the folks with RS's were in the 29xx range but I don't think any of the GSR/SE got that light.

Quick question: Does the rule quoted below mean I can somehow use my coilovers shocks with stock springs?
I'd like to support the new RT Stock classes and would like to be able to switch between STU and RT BS if possible. If so, does such a spring mount exist?

Code:
13. STOCK CATEGORY

13.5 SHOCK ABSORBERS
A. The make of shock absorbers, struts, and strut housings may be
substituted providing that the number, type (e.g., tube, lever, etc.),
system of attachment and attachment points are not altered, except
as noted below. The interchange of gas and hydraulic shocks absorbers
is permitted. The following restrictions apply:
:
:
3. Adjustable spring perches are allowed, but the spring loadbearing
surface must be in the same location relative to the shock mounting
points as on the standard part. Shims may be used to achieve
compliance.

This is the STU thread, but....

People have done this before. AST, for instance, has built some fancy, high-$$ custom shocks for people who need to run stock springs (specifically for some STi's AS/BS).

But it would be a pretty serious pain in the *** to go back and forth, especially since I would think you'd need to align the car every time. Locally, a "road tire" Evo that has taken advantage of all the stock class stuff (alignment, diff rebuild, swaybars) should be reasonably fun in STU and could be competitive depending on who's in your area.

All right, so I'm trying to decide between the Giro Disc 2 piece rotors, or the Baer eradispeed rotors. A lot of folks seem partial to the Giro Disc set up, and I'm sure they are top shelf, the price point for Baer is about $200 less an axle.

Is there a reason no one is running them? Rule wise I don't believe they have a "thinned down core section", like the ultra lites. Buschur is running them on their drag cars, and sell them on their site, so that speaks well for the rotors. Any thoughts, I'm leaning towards the Baer rotors, and don't want to be stuck with some nice door stops, due to a protest.

Thanks

I saw these were general rule changings I wonder if anyone can clarify them a little more for me.

Street Touring ECU rules updated; piggyback controllers allowed as long as they use the factory sensors and wiring

Does this mean anyone is going to be running on AEM EMS?

More lenient catalytic converter rules from STX/STU apply to all of Street Touring

More lenient cat rules its either on or off. Wht do they mean by "lenient"

Before, ST/STS/STR had to have EPA-certified replacement cats but STX/STU could run any high flow cat. I guess that ST/STS/STR don't have that requirement anymore? FWIW, there are plenty of EPA-certified high flow cats - I had some on my WRX just in case since I was worried the EPA rule might get applied to STX someday.

The relevant thing for STU I think is that you can hide CELs this year, so you can go as aggressive as you want in the cat department and not worry about a cat inefficiency CEL. I already have one of Rick's 100-cell cats so I'm not sure how much gain there is to be had there but I guess I could drill a bunch of holes in it

Hey Chris,
I tried to have a discussion with them (BAER) about this very thing and they were unresponsive/unwilling to get me the information I needed.

Thanks for the replies. I have another question regarding the dunlop star specs, is there a certain 'advatage' when the edges of the tire gets rounded off versus the fresher squared edge? I wonder if you experienced guys can feel a difference. I'm thinking if I should flip the tires early

Question, does anyone know (and have proof) that the 8 plate restack per FSM is legal in STU? I'm getting a torrent of crap from a local racer saying that it is illegal since it "did not come from the factory like that" and "the dealership would not service it per the FSM". I get the whole reason its supposed to be legal, but this guy won't stop with the whining, and its not like I'm even beating him. Arguing with this guy has been like arguing with a 6 year old and I've proven it as well as I can that its legal but he keeps going.

Thanks for any help!

That'd be 3.8A.

The FSM is the bible as to how the car should be configured. (Strictly speaking, a car that *hasn't* corrected the diff to match the FSM would be in violation of the rules...)

Tell the local to put up or shut up. If he's so sure that he's right he should protest. You'll get a free refresh of your diff at his cost.
And if he doesn't put up.. well.. then he's just trying to get into your head.
