Official 2012 Formula One Discussion Thread
Hey guys, if I came on to strong don't take it that way. I tend to use the extreme to make a point even though I am an extremely laid back person. Sometimes I forget that the written word lacks the vocal and facial changes that would clue you in on how I am saying something. That and a few shots of Southern Comfort and watch out. But I also think that saying things in a nice way doesn't always show the feeling behind them. We are adults and you should be able to take my responses and throw some back at me without offense. Debates should be passionate, it shows you care. And what's wrong with being passionate about F1? It's the best sport out there with the best drivers in the world.
When I constantly read everything anti Vettel because it's Vettel it get's old and I am going to respond in a way to make my point known. I mean picking on Vettel for the F word when Kimi said it as well is just a way to hate on Vettel for no reason. I had to call him out on it. We are adults. It's just debate. It's not a personal attack. Just a response in a way that I think makes my point. I would respond like this to my best friend. It's just debate.
I haven’t looked back but I am assuming there weren’t a bunch of posts about how lucky Alonso got that Vettel got put to the back. So it's obviously biased towards Vettel. Which I have been trying to figure out why. He seems on the surface to be a nice guy. Not too cocky. Likes to have fun. Seems to work well with his team. Doesn't do a Hamilton and blame them on twitter. Every driver out there has a bit of good luck, bad luck and a ton of skill. Why every time Vettel does anything great he doesn’t get credit is beyond me. As much as I dislike Hamilton, I won't take credit away when he wins. I just think he is overrated as a driver. But always saying Vettel is lucky, or has the best car is like the Obama people always blaming Bush. There comes a time when you have to take responsibility. Vettel can't be lucky for 3 straight years. He didn’t have the best car all year and he is leading the championship. Yea, Alonso can drive the heck out of that car, but coming from last to 3rd even with SC and a great car takes some skill. All the complaints that he is only good from the front should go away. Even with the safety car he had to fight past a bunch of guys. His pass on the Lotus showed pure skill and risk, just like his pass on Alonso last year with two wheels off. It's just Vettel has become such a god at pulling away on the first lap he has never needed to show those skills. And come on, would you tell Newey to stop making a great car just so you can fight with the rest of the pack? I am predicting he passes Michael in championships. Yea I said it. Only time well tell.
But give the kid credit where credit is due. He is awfully mature for his age but still has that kid like attitude. Dumping the bottle over the interviewers head was great. If you look at his face when he said the F word and when they apologized for him saying it, it was like he had no clue he said something "wrong". so he is either a great actor or it's just the language barrier. Besides. We really have to get off the power we give words. I honestly don't run around saying the F word in every sentence. I think it sounds trashy, but I agree it serves a purpose at times and when used every once in awhile it is fine. Also research shows if you curse after you hurt yourself, like banging you finger with a hammer, it reduces the pain. LOL

^ No worries man! We all get heated from time to time, if all you guys were saying stuff about Raikkonen I'd probably do the same thing. The thing is we're just discussing the race and just bringing up the possibilities that luck may have played a part in his drive. And everyone got lucky from time to time that weekend, Alonso definitely did with Vettel going to the back but nobody cares about that anymore because Vettel ended up in 3rd. I'm not trying to take anything away from how good of a driver he is, that pass on Button near the end was amazing, and only a skilled overtaker can do that. It'd be boring around here if we all agreed that Vettel was the greatest driver there ever was and will always win due to 100% pure skill. I like the discussions and I think most people realize it will get a little heated from time to time and thats when someone will throw out a reminder like Da Worst Player did yesterday.
But the thing is that Kimi could go out there and say "**** you all" and I'd consider it the best interview of all time lol, if any other driver did that it wouldn't be the same, I guess its more of a personality thing.

I'm sorry. I'm sort of socially awkward, think Sheldon in Big Bang Theory. Sometimes I get carried away with my opinion and assume its ok to state my opinion in my own way. I was wrong and for that I offer my sincerest apologies if anybodies feelings were hurt. For now on I promise to ask you guys first if my opinion is ok and if the way I'm stating it is acceptable. Last thing I want is the faint of heart to be offended.
And to make up for it I'm going to say, bad boy Vettel and Kimi, you boys should know better than to curse! Shame on you!

It is said in racing that the best teams are the ones who can cheat in a way that nobody notices. I feel that one reason RB is hated is because they are able to contravene the rules w/o getting caught. Do others like Ferrari cheat too? Definitely. However, I have to admire and respect McLaren for trying to do things within the rules. Sauber would be another team that is above board.
But to your first comment, I still contend that Alonso wouldn't have won at least one of his two championships at Renault had it not been for the later banned "mass damper" that they were running in the nose to reduce chassis vibration. His car lost A LOT of pace after they had to stop running that system, much like RBR experiences when they have to modify their next illegal iteration of their exhaust blown diffuser.
I don't know about Sauber, but McLaren got fined $100M a few years ago for not doing things within the rules.

You make good points and I should have clarified. McLaren, after the spygate deal, seems to be playing strictly by the rules and it shows in their development. This was discussed by the Speed crew and has been the topic of discussion on several F1 websites.
As for Alonso and Renault, I agree. There was definitely some stretching of the rules going on with them and Alonso probably did not deserve one of his championships. Given how high the stakes are today, I would surprised if almost all the teams were not cheating to some degree. Ferrari are masters at the game and have done so since they have been in F1. On the Speed forums, one guy had a blog link that told of a Ferrari mechanic who claimed that Ferrari has been cheating with their motors and was going to go to the FIA. Not sure how much merit there is in it, but Ferrari has a long history of manipulating the rules.
One of the reasons I loved the Can Am from 1966 to 1974 was the Formula Libre rules. Run whatcha brung. No limits on engines, chassis, aerodynamics, suspension and tires. The only rules were a minimum weight and running on gasoline, hence the Chaparral 2J and Porsche 917-30. In a way, I wish that Formula 1 designers were given a little more liberty in their designs. Encouraging innovation makes the sport more interesting IMO.
S**t Kimi say

Great to see Kimi win one, and ROFLCOPTER @ Kimi's comments. IMO his comments overshadowed two great drives by Alonso and Vettel. Can't wait to see the race in Austin, although unfortunately I don't get to go there this year. Maybe next year...

That was good one... Kimi always brings the lol'z.
You are right, if 100% of the fans thought Vettel was a god it would be boring. But that doesn't mean that those fans that don't think Vettel is a god and most skilled driver to every race F1 aren't COMPLETE idiots!!!
KIDDING!!!! Kinda, lol

Haha Kimi is a real character ... gotta love the guy.

Sooooo who from our F1 forum is going to the USGP this year?
I will be representing Seattle and meeting up with a friend from Forced Performance in the DFW region. The drive down to Austin will be a blast and we have a house all set up 10 miles away for 12 people to be staying.
