Official 2012 Formula One Discussion Thread
No need to worry about Alonso beating Seb. Seb got moved to the back of the grid because his car ran out of fuel. Funny how the stewards decided that Ferrari was not in contravention of the rules regarding the curfew, yet decided to exclude Seb from the qualifying results. As for the curfew, Ferrari used two in one weekend. http://formula-one.speedtv.com/artic...-curfew-twice/

This is also entirely consistent with what happened to HAM earlier this year.

I totally agree with you guys. Button and Perez are no Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso or Hulkenberg. Why Hulkenberg? Because of what he did with a non competitive Williams in 2010. He put in on the pole @ Interlagos in tricky wet and dry conditions where everyone was struggling. The Hulk was MONEY and that drive was amazing. The track was dry during the race and the top teams easily passed him, but this driving talent shows brilliance.
IMHO, the difference is, Button and Perez don't have that level of talent. I really like Button as a driver but I'm going to call it as I see it. They are only fast if the car setup suits them.
IMHO, Perez just got lucky this year and his team mate, Kobay, was very unlucky due to strategy and mishaps. McLaren may come to regret this decision, next year. But we will see ...
Couldn't happier about Seb starting in the pits. That should keep that title race exciting for the rest of us and if Alonso and Seb have horrible finishes, Hami may actually have a shot.
As for Ferrari getting a break on curfew, the stewards followed the regulations to a T. So I don't see a problem, yea it may have been meant one way (multiple days during an event) during earlier discussions but unless it is put in writing it doesn't mean squat.

Tough break for Seb but at least the stewards are staying consistent now since the exact same thing happened to Hami in Spain earlier this year. Alonso needs to make it onto the podium or hopefully a lucky race win.
Whats the issue? Your allowed 4 and they used 2, I don't see the problem to be honest with you...

Obviously that's up to the stewards and its irrelevant, really, because just as we saw earlier this year with Red Bull's shady engine mapping, if the FIA does not explicitly ban/sanction something, it will be exploited.
Again, four curfew breaks are allowed and Ferrari simply took two. Also again, HAM was penalized the same way VET was today--for the same reason.
Not to say VET is garbage or that his car is perfect, but he has a tremendous car. Kathikeyan could be put in that thing and dominate everyone so its refreshing to see that the RB8 and its engineers aren't completely impervious to errors.
wot, no RB domination this weekend. we all know webber is going to eff up the start and end up in 5th after turn one
he'll probably finish 8th and seb will finish 7th all the way from the back

Some points relative to Sauber situation: Perez goes to McLaren supposedly due to his superior driving relative to Kobay and Hulk acquired as supposedly a better driver...Now here R the facts as expressed by another:"A. Kobayashi out scored and out qualified Perez his first year by a mile
B. Kobayashi out qualified Perez so far this season, but given the inferior pit strategy, parts. (Why Sauber would sabotage success is beyond me, top tier teams that aren't Ferrari don't do that).
C. Kobayashi's podium matched RBR/Mclaren's pit stop strategy. No tire drop off gambling. Koba out raced a Mclaren without using 20s pit stop buffer.
By facts he is better than Perez. But X-Factor?
D. He was the only guy overtaking before the DRS every other race... while guys in those season had a hand full of on track overtakes."
Later, Ken
