Official 2012 Formula One Discussion Thread
Some interesting tidbits in the oh burn category:
1. Jacques Villeneuve feels that Merc should have kept Schumi rather than Rosberg. Gotta love it.
2. Pirelli's Paul Hembery says that Kobay is being considered as a tire tester for Pirelli. [Do I hear someone out Rhode Island way weeping and gnashing his teeth?]

Some interesting changes for 2013 have come out of Whiting: http://www.pitpass.com/47900-Whiting...weaks-for-2013
regarding use of DRS, Flexing front wings/chassis and how much fuel left following Qualy...In short, trying to confine the current top runners further...the FIA game of catch up.

Can't believe this race is happening guys. So cool. That hairpin is going to be delicious come the start of the race. Let's see now: we should see Grosjean, Kobay and Maldanado doing their thing if I know them. I just cannot imagine there not being a contratemps at the hairpin. That infield section is being compared to Suzuka, which is a good thing. Vettel looking good already and the track seems to suit the Red Bull. Regardless of the outcome, this is such good news for those of us here in the US who are F1 hungry.

Was sitting at turn 9 (top row, row 37) all day. Track seems awesome, huge elevation change. From our vantage point we could see 7 turns and the entire back stretch. So cool!!!
Argh! So jealous!
Wouldn't it be hilarious if they all crashed into each other into the 1st turn.

Nail in the coffin for Kobay?

How about Vettel's relative dominance so far in the first couple practices, especially after only getting in a much shorter amount of laps in Practice 2 because of the water leak? Obviously nobody is going to show all of their cards in the first few practices, but Vettel looks damn quick compared to the competition already, and the track really does look like something that would suit their car very well with very little time spent going for top speed for any lengthy distance. At this point, I think Vettel's got a very good shot of P1 from start to finish, even during pit stop rotations.
I think all of us would like to see Kobay stay in F1. Certainly, he is much better than many of the mid tier drivers. He may find a spot with one of the bottom 3 teams and Paul Hembery has said he can do tire testing. I think his days are numbered though with a mid level team unless Force India decides to sign him.

I think you Americans lucked out on an amazing design, the more I look at the track layout the more I like it, really looking forward to this weekend.
