Actually, the idea is more about the other end. More spring and less bar up front. More spring prevents the awful evo nose dive, and the car rolls flatter and in turn creates less inside rear lift.

Also, with more front spring you can use less front bar which reduces front weight transfer and load on the outside front. Net grip gain. Then to balance the increased front roll, a bigger rear bar will also help to reduce front weight. And with the less dive due to front springs, the big rear bar doesn't pickup the inside rear except a tiny bit (<1") at steady state while decelerating.

Ive tried most the common setups, but now run both cars I setup with this balance. One on street tires and one on R-comps.

Congrats on the win this weekend Geoff! Not too shabby for a newly built car.

Any thoughts, testing, or experience with various exhaust manifold options in STU? I've most commonly seen people running a ported stocker, but I've also seen at least one person running the MAP short runner, and I wanna say I even saw someone running a full tubular exhaust mani. It's tough to judge based on other testing and dynos since everything seems to have been done on setups with bigger turbos, much higher boost, and usually lots of other bolt-ons.

Obviously, I'm interested in hearing about tradeoffs in spool, power, powerband and torque.

As a potential thought-starter, I found an old-ish thread which said a 1.25" runner tubular exhaust manifold offered similar, if not the same, spool as a stock manifold (maybe even a ported stock manifold) but I don't know what setup that was on.

Can anyone comment on why you would use a 17X9.5 over a 17X9 RPF1 for STU?

This is not a fitment question - I've seen both being run before in STU on the CT9A chassis.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

17x9.5 squares up the tire better, makes it a little more responsive.

On something stiff like the Dunlops it's not a huge deal. On something like the RS3s it's a bigger deal.

Sales pitch: I have a brand new set of Ferodo 2500's for an EVO. I bought them from someone thinking that at least one of the ends would work, but never ended up using them. Make me a respectable offer and they're yours.

I have run map short runner, a ported stocker and finally a tomei short runner Honestly I couldn't tell the diff between any of them. The map cracked between the runner and egr ports, so I went with a ported stocker, power felt the same, perhaps torque came in a little quicker. Found a tomei used last season and have been using it ever since. The tomei and the map are about 4-5# pounds lighter

The current version of the MAP short runner eliminates the egr ports in an effort to solve the cracking issue there, mine is holding up so far (knocks on wood).

^^ Thanks for the input! I was able to find some discussion on exh manis in the 2009 STU thread but this is the first I've heard of the weight difference between short runner and ported stocker. Had I known that, I might've thought twice before going with the MAP Rev3 stocker I just ordered today. I guess if I become a total slave to weight reduction, the short runner might come into play.

Almost stole one for the Dark Side this weekend in Dover, but those Subaru guys are still quite fast

Excellent driving this weekend John! I actually cheered for you when you came across the finish in first on Day 1!

Shane had cone issues early on both days and had to just stay clean on the last run on both days. No help for him there. I think we underdrove a bit on Saturday after watching the videos. We were trying to set everything up and run the right line, but not carrying any speed while doing so. Day 2 was a different story where we did attack and it showed. If you look at the top times in each class, the average difference in time from Day 1 to Day 2 course was about 0.5s slower on Day 2. I know Shane's fastest raws and my clean times were about a tenth faster on Day 2. Definitely not the norm. I guess you just had to wake us up after Day 1...or perhaps it was all the alcohol I had on Saturday night, still not sure which.

Awesome job out there to the STU drivers! It was fun to watch.
On day two I was working the station closer to the start and all the STU cars keep hitting the same cone.
I am still working on my car to join STU…I don’t know how the Evo X is going to work but so far it feels a lot better, the biggest issue may be the 245s tires and of course the driver
