Day 2 course was more fun than day 1. Neither day fulfilled the 'San Diego Course' that tradition implied that we'd be getting. The courses were slower and shorter than the previous years Tours. Like Doug says - the lot is breaking up, so they were forced to go around the holes.

Ken claims that his job is to test trucks for optimal mileage, towing capacity, etc etc - we all know that the truth is he autocrosses cars, at the best site in California, for a living.

Fun none-the-less. It was good to see everyone.

Oh, interesting tid-bit, an apostrophe in a name will cause the timing / results software to crash.

4wd4me - I have a question (not really a comment) but could you have hit 1st @ 22s on day two? Sometimes I play around with going to first, and really struggle to determine if it is worth it.

(I need to get a GPS to get some data)

You look extremely fast!

Any advice on a base STU alignment for an Evo X?

I was thinking to start testing with something like this:

Camber
Front = -3
Rear = -2

Caster
As much as possible?

Toe
Front =??
Rear =??

Thanks!

Are you on stock springs, dampers, and sway bars?

I have no personal experience with the Evo X, but those numbers with zero toe would be a good starting point. On my IX with Swift Spec-R springs and stock sway bars, I ended up with -3.2/-1.8 for camber, max caster, and zero toe last year, but I was still a bit tail-happy. I'll probably try more camber front & rear this year.

KWs V3
Front Springs = ~514lbs
Rear Springs = ~600lbs

Vorshlag front camber plates and hotchkis rear sway bar at the moment.

I would think -3.5 or -3.6* negative front camber at least, rear closer to -1.5* or even less to get a bit more balanced for an autoX setup. Front toe 1/16" out each side perhaps... Rear toe 0, or possibly just the SLIGHTEST -0.01" toe out.

No expert on the X, I'm assuming that under compression the rear toes in. if that isn't the case then perhaps a little different static rear toe.

Time would have most definitely been lost shifting to 1st. It's rarely beneficial to choose a downshift to 1st rather than just stay in 2nd (at least on the courses I've driven).

Geoff, what happened? How could you let Doug beat you?

Rick, IIRC, didn't Tom co-drive with you and win a few years ago? I could look it up, but I'm lazy. Haven't seen the courses but I doubt even an STI course would have been enough to hang with that Ken jerk.

And somebody *cough* Rick *cough* tell that Motonishi guy to leave us alone. Man he's fast.
Josh,

Yep Tom beat me by .023 sec in 2009 for the jacket, I haven't let him in the car since

Ken is quick in any car, many times beating the very top ST owners in their own cars.

Even Max came up to me and said the tight course was a perfect for a '06 STi. Local gal in a STi beat the NW Ladies hotshoes. You got to get on the GT5 autocrossers group so you can race on-line with Shane, me and Lugod.

We are on the ZIIs. We like them, Ken set top pax at the last San Diego event, which he wasn't able to do before, even when the STU PAX was easier. Also running down there before the tour gave us an advantage being able to set the car up for the tires/surface.
