2017 STU Discussion!
....
noticed the STIs have been doing pretty well in STU not just this year but all of 2016 & dating back to late 2015 - is there something special they're doing differently/they've got going setup wise? or is it purely driver here? I'm surprised given their short 2nd gear, they've got to be going into 3rd frequently at nats

They, Robert P. and his co-driver, Chris Gladu (when his STi is not broken), are very good drivers. A good driver in a well prepped Evo might be able to keep up with those guys. But Mr. GT Academy is from another planet. Which ever class he participates in leaves others fighting for 2nd.

I don't plan on changing anything for the first couple of runs. I know I have an aggressive style of driving, and I'm simply too stubborn to alter it, I much prefer to alter the car to fit my needs not the other way around....that's the whole point of touring classes right?
I wan't to be even more aggressive with it and really attack elements, but the confidence is just not there as the car is snappy and loose when going ten tenths. Sometimes I save it, sometimes I catch it late, sometimes I make blooper videos lol
I was just asking in the event of understeer, what should be my go to changes.

I had to be very careful with the rear end coming out on me when I used to run a lot of front rake in the talon. That and too much rear rebound. Is your car corner balanced?

Other than that on the side of car adjustments, you could raise rear end a bit, add more rebound in the rear, less compression in the front. My favorite one is not to get too hot into the corner and let the car get out of it with throttle, but that one is on the driving side.
Wait to see how things are gona play out with your new setup since it will take a bit for you to get comfortable with it and than if you have to adjust something on the car. But, be careful and don't adjust more than one thing at the time and try that for a run or two. Than, do more changes if needed.
Good luck!

They have a good amount of torque which makes 3rd gear more than usable. More than anything, I think on the National level, STU Evos are being outdriven by STU STi's, IMO. On Day 1 at Spring Nats, Robert Pendergest was less than 0.3s off Bryan (0.4s if you count Bryan's faster, but dirty, run 2); at Nats 2016, he was in 2nd after Day 1 (ahead of Jeff Stuart and Lane Borg, who were some of the other top 2WD drivers in the class). To me, that says the AWD cars can get pretty close with a high-level driver - hell, maybe one even has a shot at winning if the driver/car are good enough. I've talked to Bryan about co-driving with me at a local event sometime soon, he seems up for it so hopefully we'll see what he thinks of an Evo's chances in the class.
He's probably driven one from teaching at Evo schools or from random local events, but to my knowledge he's never owned/driven one for a season. No idea if he's driven an STU STi, though.
In love with the new setup. 800/900 rates, whiteline rear bar on full stiff. The car is stable and controlled, night a day difference from the old set up. All the clunking is gone (it was the swaybar collar hitting the frame btw). Course was fast and I felt like an uber driver giving everyone rides lol. I got one solo run and it started to rain for it
so I didnt really have a chance to really push it. My driving was off today as I am still getting used to the setup but man oh man can you simply attack corners now. The course was fast and I should have used 3rd gear but never tried it for unknown reasons. Lost a bunch of time coasting to avoid prolonged limiter action, cars were hitting low 70s in spots where I was in the high 50's coasting, but other than that the car is finally dialed. Only negative side effect I noticed is that I am getting front wheel spin on corner exit when the tires are cold. Once they get up to temp, the spin is very minimal. Car is still playful with a free rear end however it is very easy to simply control it and point the front where you want to go. BTW I hit 2.27 G's on a on camber turn, crazy lol. Even steady corner G's went up from the previous setup.

Alright Ladies and Gentlemen I need some help/direction. I am a hair under 6'6 and weigh 250lbs with a 36 inch waist. I really want to put a seat in the EVO X and was thinking of going with this:
http://www.murraymotorsport.com/prod...seat-008802fnr
My main goal here to get the seat as low as possible for obviously reasons (6'6
). Does anybody here have experience with what my best options are regarding getting the seat as low as possible? I would like to avoid custom fab work, I don't care about sliders and am not against just bolting the thing in a fix'ed position as nobody drivers my car outside of me. If I have codrivers....oh well sucks for them lol.
I have never put an aftermarket seat into any of my cars and am wondering what to do with the seat belt, air bags, wiring. Also what can I expect drop wise cause if all this work is for an inch or so, then it simply might not be worth the time and effort. Thanks in advance.

Expect to build a custom fixed seat mount. We did in my buddies 2G GSX when we put in a Sparco Evo2 seat. He's 6'2, fits in the car with a helmet on lol. You will likely need to lay the seat back a little bit (15-20*), but that's how they're supposed to be mounted anyways. Shouldn't be perfectly vertical
