I run out of 4th gear a lot on our local tracks and will do so even more with a larger turbo. It's really annoying to do a quick shift up to 5th only to have to shift right back down, and I had a fairly scary off at near 100 mph last year resulting from a botched 5-4 downshift immediately after a 4-5 upshift before a high speed turn. Makes me want to change gearing or run on taller tires. I'm so jealous when I watch the Camaro and Corvette guys run from 80 up to 125 mph without shifting. We can do that too if we wind out to nearly 9000 rpm, but I'm not willing to do that.

yea exactly the same scenario. it's worse with the 6spd with slightly shorter gears - i hit about 107-108 max in 4th gear. the ultimate ratio 3-4-5 that i had on my old evo 9 is really nice for track work but i'm not going down that route again, and as mentioned not wanting to wind out the gears either.

My motor has never been out of the car. I have rods and pistons and built head, but still have balance shafts and a balance shaft belt to worry about (even though I just changed it along with the timing belt).

Speaking of which...how often do you guys change timing belts? A guy in the Facebook Evo Motorsports group posted this week that he changes his timing and balance shaft belts every year in his ST3 car.

I change mine every 3yrs. Car doesn't get driven much.

You should delete your balance shafts. You can install the stub shaft in the oil pump, then just leave the rear shaft in and leave the belt off of it.

damn. i did my belts 3-4 years ago with gates. my motor is stock aside from head studs so i shift at 7000 or sooner. maybe the solution for me is just to shortshift a bit

My engine is stock besides cams and springs and I wing it up to 8000. Puts me at about 115-116 mph in 4th (6-speed). For auto-x stuff, those few extra rpm (even though power tanks) definitely helps it stay off the limiter. My new engine will be able to safely rev to 9k.

S2 cams with Manley springs. They will be up for sale soon if you are interested. Only have 3000 miles of use. Tires are RT615 265-35-18.

we spin to 9k ( realistically slightly less as the limiter is at 9000 and it hardly gets bumped. 4pistons head and r2 or s3's are in the works replacing s2's just looking to fatten the curve up as much as we can. I imagine it will be easier to hit the limiter. Improved fresh air system is slowly in the works. Should be a fun car for local ax events

Just wanted to post up how I did my ACD line routing for the relocation since everyone has a different strategy. I wanted to keep it as much as possible to completely hardlines, no extra connections/fittings and try to make it look OEM. I kept it on the drivers side because the exhaust was causing me too much hassle with where I could place the ACD pump and I used the evap hard line on the driver's side (which I believe is the JDM acd line anyways) to go to the front. The reservoir is going in the stock JDM location. Everything is pretty tightly packaged in there with my surge tank but everything mocked up well together. I still have to secure the line with some hangers and straighten out some kinks / paint it so don't judge the finish quality.

Man, I'd really like to do that to make brake ducting easier. Just seems overwhelming right now. I'd hate to get half way in and mess up LOL
plus, I need my evap functional.

This is possible if your on aftermarket ecu depending on how they have your rpm limit set up. you could have it set as a soft cut,

However i saw your other comment about how your holding 4th through large sections cause ur avoiding using 5th. you shouldnt be sitting way up at like 7000rpm no matter what. need to try drive that section in a higher gear.
