I would just clean it and put back in OEM grease but doesnt seem available on its own since my boots are fine. Just old nasty grease at this point.

Im guessing CV-2 will be just fine as an alternative unless you guys know otherwise?

Testing hardness is a good idea beofre spending $3500 on porting and a full bling build, once they're soft they'll never hold a gasket again. But I don't think I've ever had one end up being soft. And for Dallas's case, to just gbet it together and mak ean event, it'll be ok. Especially since he's planning an off season rebuild regardless.

That and I've never overheated (knock on wood) so I guess I've never realized it was a thing.

They also like going full soft and melting when they are overheated... This happened during a time attack when our driver didn't like to look at the gauges... lol

That's more than just elevated coolant temps, it looks like some nasty preignition. Usually it's either the head/block deck or the piston crown that ends up with a hole in it. Heavy preigntion won't get picked up by a knock sensor in some cases.

Thats simply the headgasket having a full failure, at which point combustion gasses make themselves a nice little ventilation port and cut/melt the head as they go out.

Hahaha, I know, I was being dramatic. I'm also not wrong in my statement, it got really hot and went soft. :P

It was indeed the HG then the steam got to cuttin'... while the driver ignored the temp gauge. The only thing that caught his attention finally was the white smoke coming out every where.

Yeah it happens some times. And that amount of damage can happen much more quickly than you think once the gasket lets go.

Yeesh, Ive blown quite a few head gaskets over the last 20 years of 4G63 playing but never bad enough to do that. Granted, E85 and moderate boost/timing typically keeps things safe. But just seeing that makes me happy I pulled the head for some cleanup.

Though all this effort may end up being just for a single event as we shift some focus to the Tesla since I need to get to making parts this winter but need a baseline to start with.

I'm honestly surprised you're not trying to shoot for KOTM.

Its just too far. I was going to do the Texas Optima autox but chose to not go primarily cause they allowed the Kumho V720acr which isnt allowed in any other 200tw class. Basically like nearly a hoosier vs my A052s I would have run. A052 is good, but v720acr is a step up as long as you can get heat in them. And they also allowed tire warmer.

In the end, 1st and 2nd was on them as I suspected it would be.

If they do it again, they did say no more V720.

Was it really worth that much time to make 19's work? Or were these non-evo chassis already setup for that. 25 sidewall is basically paint lol.
