What car are you putting 235’s on front? Hopefully it weighs under 2500lbs
Nope she weighs in at 3600lbs. I've always stuck with OEM sizes on this car, but I just changed out to 0.5" wider wheels so can hopefully find a tire I like in 245/275
I feel your pain! I swear I've spent enough money in mounting/balancing this year to buy a darn tire changer....
Used to spend $1000-$1500/ season on mounts and balances! Got a balancer that’s not setup yet and still need to get a tire machine. With that yearly burn rate the payoff is pretty quick.
Me either. Sometimes it's a slow top bead to pop, but not 2 hours.
I just updated my old machine with a bead ram and a "bead puller" (got off E-bay of all places) that replaces the head.
I now have almost no issues with the shortest of sidewalls and/or stiff perf tires.
I had to build and weld on a custom mount for ram, as it was not designed exclusively for my machine.
Even made extensions for the rollers, allows me to get to a TPMS sensor without removing tire, even on a really deep dish rim,
like these "Bullits" I have on my Stang (can see how hacked up inside of rim is, when I used to have to use 6 foot long pry bars for bead sometimes)
This thing I really love and was as easy to install as just removing and replacing the head.
I do like driving angry! That's why I'm STILL on NT01s. I can be about as ham fisted as I like
You would probably like the Kumho V730's then. Especially the price. They don't have the pace of the super 200's (which are faster than the NT01) but they are quick and take abuse.
They are also under $900 for a set of four 275/35/18

What are you referring to as super 200s? I just tossed a set of v730s on my civic and podiumed in a field of rt660 users this past weekend. I found their peak grip to be very on par with the rt660 but with a much better heat tolerance and tread life, I'm definitely a fan. I think only the A052 is significantly faster. Haven't seen much on the new 71RS or Nexen tire.

The top 3 super 200's, at least for track use, in order of speed:
Yoko A052 > Nankang CR-S > RT660
Of course, everyone has different opinions on tires but from what I have seen on track, those are the top three as far as lap times.
I know from data that the first two are actually faster than some of the 100tw's out there (NT01, AR1, etc)
I think the V730's are very dependent on car weight. I keep seeing good results from lighter cars. On my Supra, they are a couple seconds slower than the CR-S.
Your specific example is really hard to quantify as you are comparing against completely different cars/setups.
RE-71RS comes out on top, followed by RT660 and then A052.
The A052 is surprising, and they acknowledge that it would have required chassis tuning to extract top times from the tire. Would have been great if they took a second or third day to take the top 3 tires and dial in alignment and suspension settings for each of them, but obviously that's a lot to ask. I'm just happy to have more test points like this.
Also fun to see the Hankook R-S4 hanging in there with some respectable times. The R-S4 is becoming one of my favorite tires for getting a lot of seat time and not worrying about tire wear. Although maybe I should be looking into the Michelin PSC 2 or Advan A009 for my next set of endurance tires.

Have to wonder how being 400 lbs lighter, and probably better balanced than a stockish 8/9, would affect the test (especially with the "small" tire they are using).
Glad the RE's are back.
I am 100% surprised to see the 660 rate higher than an a052.
Just goes to show you how important a properly set up car is.
As for the RS4, I've been promoting that tires, personally, for years. I had a set on the Evo, on stock wheels, and absolutely beat on the car at Laguna Seca for a whole day. They never complained once. I also don't think they wore it all lol
