city cop or suburban cop?

because in general i find city cops to be MUCH more agreeable than suburban cops are.

i think the cameras are a good idea though, and can't believe that it isn't mandatory for every cruiser to have one. it protects citizens and police.

i know the article was about the city, and so it woulnt be doing anything for me. not like ill be getting pulled over again anyway *knock on wood* but my experience was a suburban cop.

However, ive heard some bad things about the city ones. Not too long ago my grandparents got pulled over in pittsburgh by a female cop. Naturally my grandfather had to explain why he was speeding... as my grandma decided to put in a little bit of her story the cop threatened to arrest her. I dont remember the whole thing, but there is no reason to threaten my probably 77yr old grandma at the time with being arrested.

I have no problem with a police officer getting angry or being a dick if I legitimately broke the law. Afterall, that is their job. I spoke with the cop who got me in Rankin and he was a real ***** at first, but after the hearing he was cool. He explained to me that he never knows who he's pulling over. They could have a gun or 10 kilo's of coke. Especially in Braddock or Homestead. In most circumstances they don't take any chances. He actually asked the magistrate to show leniency towards me. And he also told me that I'm big target for police officers with my car!

The officer who wishes to be brutal will just shut off his camera during that arrest.

Still doesn't justify rude behavior if they do exhibit any. Only justifies their carefulness in dealing with a citizen.

Still doesn't justify rude behavior, only carefulness. speaking to a person the first few seconds, they already know how to deal with them. Most of the cops are pretty good at reading people. They don't see a difference between a speeder and a drug dealer. I dont find that justifiable. Its all about the money.

The officer who wishes to be brutal will just shut off his camera during that arrest.
Maybe I should get my own concealed recording camera!!!! one more toy!!!!

Facts of my life:

1) First speeding ticket/encounter:5mph over with a clean record in northern VA.
2) Never was let go with a warning.
3) Boot-licking never worked.
4) Obedience and careful answers never worked.
5) Pleading never worked.
6) I'll die old, but I'll probably never get to meet a lenient cop. I envy those of you who got to meet one.
7) I've kept most of my tickets off-record by contesting/negotiating and changing licenses between states(legally) like crazy.

The truth, in my opinion, is that speeding tickets are revenue generators for the county and insurance companies. They have more to do with the monetary aspect than safety and sanity. Although I did get my share of well deserved tickets, most of them were pretty lame. I drove a little more than 100,000 miles in the last 4 years given the nature of my job. Cops are just a basic reality of life for me at this point.

I'm at a point where I don't even bother talking to the cop anymore unless asked a question. I try to stay as short as possible. I just tell myself "I'll see ya in court". I don't even find them to be on a moral high-ground anymore like I used to. Believe it or not, I've had more luck with the magistrates than the cops.

Just my $0.02...

I got nailed on 422 doing 77 in a 55 like an idiot, saw the cop and said oh well... pulled over immediately. I simply told him I was being an idiot and not paying attention and he decided to write me a warning and fine me for my loud exhaust (catback only haha). Then he proceeded to tell me that kids these days put "fart can" exhausts on their cars just to make noise and they don't add any horsepower... lol. Even though I was offended by his arrogance, I held back and didn't say anything but silently decided that next time I go through that area I will have no f***ing cat on my car... lol.

i don't believe they have the ability to turn the cameras off. that would defeat the purpose.

and regardless of the infraction/crime that is NO EXCUSE for some cop with a tiny dick to treat me like sh*t. in my opinion they should always conduct themselves in a professional manner.

all too often the police make themselves into judge, jury, and executioner. which is absurd. they are strictly there to enforce laws that are on the books. it is not their place to punish, berate, or otherwise reprimand anyone.

i know that sounds rather idealistic, but ask any good cop, and REAL cop that has to deal with actual crime and they will tell you the same.

all too often i find that many officers are just people who were bullies in high school and when they graduated realized they had no skills and no future so they picked a career where they could continue to bully people everyday. this is not applicable to all police. i do realize that there are good ones out there, but unfortunately they are over shadowed by many more who are role crazy ******.

i always treat cops with respect when i have to deal with them, and it infuriates me when that is not reciprocal.

The funny thing about cops is that they are technically "public servants." They are here to "serve" the public. The problem is that they feel that their service should be taking money from you versus protecting you from those trying to taking money from you. Its all just money-making and government control via the illusion of keeping the public safe.

Luckily (or not-so-lucky depending on how you view it), we pay personal income taxes out the azz, so they don't need to take as much money from us in the form of b.s. speeding tickets. Go down to Florida where there are no personal income taxes and you will find about four times the amount of police handing out tickets. Basically, you are going to get screwed by the government either way...its just a matter of how and when.

this topic reminds me of the famous words of a great group of inspirational speakers in our time to help shape the minds of young adults.

in the words of NWA - "**** the police...."

Pretty much everyone objected to my comments, so I'm eleborate a bit more... Most kids think a cop is being a dick if he writes them a ticket for speeding. Or he's a dick because he didn't beleive that you had to hurry to the bathroom. And then he gets angry because he knows you're just trying to get out of a crime you commited. In my opinion, this is justified behavior. They are doing their job. Their job is to serve and protect, like someone above said. Now, obviously, there's no place for brutality. I will not defend them for that. But that's >1% of all police officers.

For those who think ticketing is just a fundraiser... Imagine no cops on the highways. How long would you survive?
