Check your pads. Everytime my DSM starts the shake and rattle hauling down at the end of the track from 130mph it has been pads that are too thin and immediately jumping into the "too hot for operation" range on the temperature scale of the pad. A good inspection of the rotors and a pad change usually solves it. Evo's are unique in that the rotors tend to get beat up by the stock pads, so your probably going to have to shave them flat to do the job right.

if you rotors are smooth and vibrating, they are either warped or have break pad material glazed on them. need to get excess material off, then check.

if there's grooves/lines whatever, making a rotor thinner by resurfacing will only make if warp again and faster because it will be thinner and not handle heat well.

with regular street cars, you'd be ok, but with brembos-you need good pads and rotors.

+1 on the pads. I felt some mild pulsating and thought I was going to have to replace my rotors but it turned out to be just a set of pads.

While were on that topic anyone know where I can get the stock shims? I am just looking for the stickies as my other ones are in pretty good shape. I have seen them for sale in various places but they fail to mention if they are the stainless peices or the others.

I had the same problem. From what I understand, the shims sold at most shops are the stainless pieces. The only way to get the asbestos / kevlar (or whatever they are) shims is to either buy stock brembo pads or PM Martin from Girodisc. Not all aftermarket pads come without the shims. Either do this or reuse the ones from your stock brembo's. They aren't easy to peel off though.

I suggest Martin from Girodisc.....very great to deal with.

I just ordered a set of magic pads and they come with the shims attached like the stock pads. They also sell the shims separate to put on other pad types, they had a special in October of $140.00 shipped for F&R brake pads.

Supposedly they are better than oem in every way + quiet.....I am installing them this weekend, will get some kind of review up when I can.

Forgive my ignorance - what are you guys refering to on the brake setup that needs shimmed? Is there something on our braking system that needs to be spaced?

There are shims glued to the back of the stock pads....some aftermarket pads don't come with these shims and can cause squeaking and slight fitment issues. So you can either get new shims from places like girodisc, buy pads with shims glued on them, or peel the ones off the stock pads and re-glue onto new pads if they don't have shims.

Yeah I have been through that mess way too many times. I tried everything to stop the squealing. Then I realized I left the stickies on the back of my stock pads. What sucks is that all of the shims add some serious pedal slop!! Without the stickies I was steppin on a brick of a pedal...

Once again thanks for the info fellas, I will keep that in mind when it comes time for winter maintenance

Squealing also happens due to glazing. I recently had my rotors cut a little bit by the dealership for free under warranty.

well i just put my winter wheels on. i could have really checked them out and maybe taken a pic. i have hawk hps, and there is no slanted part of the pad left like most brake pads have, do these have the slanted part? however there looks to still be alot of pad left anyway ill get them nice and clean to see if that'll help

Your talking about the leading edge chamfer i think. On my project mu pads those only went so deep in the pad but disappeared as they wore down. I was told this could also cause sqealing.
