Connecticut Evos
No, not really. It is more of a clunk or thump, that has no perceivable relation to the angle of the steering wheel. Some people have described a failing CV joint as having a clicking noise when turning, but I don't believe I would describe my noise as clicking and i experience most of the noise while proceeding in a straight line.
Bryan try searching for a thread called "clunking front end noise" it's been around for a long time and has some information in it. I wonder if your experiencing the typical front end clunk that is common to the CT9A. Mine was persistent for about 8-9 months one time and then it just stopped. It was more audible when I was driving slowly over uneven road or a bump. As well as when parking, as in driving slow and turning the wheel. I want to say it's generally the front right that was more common.
Good luck.
P.s don't forget that the Evo (especially the Viii and IX) are very raw cars and some noise and weird sounds are common and considered normal... Nature of the beast I guess.
Good luck.

I think the noise is coming from both sides up front, however i do believe it is more prevalent on the right.
Since you are local, can I steal a few minutes of your time in the next few days for you to confirm/deny it is a similar situation to what your car was doing?

right now I'm looking into what suspension\wheel\tire combo works
I have rpf1's 18x9.5 +15
I'm thinking a 255/35/18 tire
on swift springs
think it will fit with no rubbing?
or at worst I may have to roll the rear fenders a little?

I saw that thread and it looked like a daunting read and the first few posts seemed to be referencing a different issue. I will commit some time in the not-so-distant future to getting through it.

Swaybar Bushings
Blown Struts/Strut Bearings
Wheel Bearings
Brake Calipers sticking
Just to name a few things... Does it happen after a change in inertia (Tap the brakes firmly to nose the car down tap the gas firmly to nose the car up)? Does it happen after a change of direction (Reverse to forward). Does it seem rotational?
I cant remember exact size on my car but im running 18X8's with like a 245/40 i think and my fenders were rolled and my Mud flaps sometimes rub on my tires with tight turns. I dont know if this helps or not but i can get more exact information for you after i get off of work thisafternoon and some pictures if you want of my wheel/tire setup so you can see what i mean.
Clunks in the front end can be:
Swaybar Bushings
Blown Struts/Strut Bearings
Wheel Bearings
Brake Calipers sticking

It does happen during a change in inertia, but makes the noise traveling slowly at constant inertia. It does make the noise after a change in direction also.
The noise does not appear to be rotational.

So when you are traveling slowly at constant inertia, how often does the sound occur? Is it when the road is smooth, when you hit a bump, anything like that?
If its change in direction (Forward to backwards or vice versa) it could be a wheel bearing (Trust me.. i've been there.. EVERYTHING pointed AWAY from the bearing, but it ended up being the bearing)... Could also be a bad motor mount, or control arm bushing... Or have you had balljoints/tie rods out? If they are over torqued that could do it..

I am willing to replace things preventatively at this point, and the wheel bearing sounds like a good place to start...
How much of a pain in the *** is that job? How much is the bearing? Given that I have very very little free time, am I better off paying someone else to do it?
Lastly, Noah if you are ever around Enfield (not including weekends) or if you feel like taking a drive to Stratford on Sunday (FCSCC AutoX), let me know. I would like a first hand opinion.
Thanks,

Not really in Enfield much...
This is how to remove the hub from the car which contains the wheel bearing... Not too hard to do..
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...b-bearing.html
I would do it a little different though... Instead of unbolting the strut & turning it around, i'd remove the bolts and use a slide hammer to pull the hub out as recommended in the service manual (Eliminates the need for an alignment after)..
Then you have the option of taking apart the hub assembly to replace the wheel bearing for a cost of $30-$80 (Aftermarket vs OEM) and you will need a hydraulic press, or buy a new hub/bearing assembly for $80-$200 (Aftermarket vs OEM) in which case you won't need the press...
Its also a good time to do longer wheel studs while you have the hub out.. On the rears you HAVE to pull the hub out with a slide hammer to replace the studs... On the front I was able to sneak them in without removing the hub on the rally car..

Hey Fellas,
What's goin on with everyone? I haven't been on here lately - How was the Buttonwoods meet? I was supposed to come but I got sidetracked but another activity. We should have another meet soon - I know Ken's always up for a meet, because he loves reminding me how much faster his car is over mine.
Suck it, Ken. Just you wait til I get my Veyron...
