from my experience, a good autoxer will be good at track also but not the other way around. that's why i think it's always better to autox first then track. i'm always revealed when my students tell me they have autox experience. but a good tracker knows how to handle the car at high speed from fell of the seat.
Its a date... I mean a deal. Sign up if you haven't already before spots are filled up. Chu might be right, they may put a 'cap' on us non-porsche guys.

Pete, looking at my father in law's new vee dub toureg it looks like his front silver painted brembos are the same as our Evo so looks like we share pads with several cars.

from the little research I've done (aka, looking at the brake/rotor thread smikey did) it seems the ST-43;s only have a 1400* peak operating temp... that seems kinda low considering the XP-12's have 2000* rating. I wonder what the xp10's are rated at?

I mispoke, it would be R1001

I think XP10's are rated to 1650.

Marc,

Would you say the X brakes may be a little better than viii/ix brakes?

I'm asking because when you were teaching me threshold braking, you said a few things like "you're brakes are really good" and "I think I had you braking too hard back there". Could this be on account of the whole torque arm thing with the larger rotors etc?

Pete is right. Per Carbotech the XP10 goes up to 1650*... the XP 8 is 1350*, so the ST-43's fall kinda in the middle @ 1450*. My only reservation is whether or not that temp delta between the two pads is going to make much difference. the last thing I, or anyone, wants is the pads to fade an the end of a long straight when you really need your brakes!

I think the brakes are the same... they use the same pads anyway, but the X is heavier than the VIII/IX so that would make a difference. How much of a difference I don't know. Tim would probably be a better person to ask that question to though since he's put more time on the X brakes than anyone I know.

The reason why I said I had you braking too early or too hard in some spots is because we weren't going fast enough... yet.

Not to answer a question posed to Marc, but...IIRC, eX's have slightly bigger rotors and calipers. You're right on about being the larger rotor having increased braking efficiency due to a larger arm. The larger calipers on the eX also has allow more braking power, which makes me curious to know the piston size on the eX caliper vs the 8/9. I've said this before, I think the eX brakes are a great/cheap alternative to a BBK on an 8/9 since they are in fact larger.

I think the 43's will work for me, given I'm not nearly as fast as you. You push the car way harder than I do.
