Philadelphia's Classiest Drunkards
Pete, Are you or are not not recommending Bimmerworks?
I dealt with them a few years ago, and had a good experience. They seem like the natural choice for a shop to look over a BMW.

I am not. The shop I would tell you to go to is right around the corner from them though. These guys are also former BMW mechanics. Tommy's Automive, S. Bolmar, right next to Young's Auto Body.
Tommy's > Bimmerworks
Same goes for you James, as you are now a stuck up Big Money Wasted owner.

325 is the 6cylinder, IS was the top of the line, just below the M3.
$3k for an unmolested, low mileage 88 325is is a very good bargin IMO. Just make sure you find out how long its been since the timing belt was replaced. BMW recommends 60k or 5 year, which ever comes first. If that belt breaks your pistons will eat valves. The good news is a complete m20 longblock can be had for around $250, lol. The better news is an E36 M3 swap is only about $2-$2.5k, even better than that is an V8 swap!

Didn't you just post on picturebook abouth something you were putzing around near the sunroof? Dry carbon 3m 3d twin weave waffle weave wrap job somethingorother?
I actually called Bimmerworks to check about a prebuy, and they don't do waiting appointments. I didn't even ask about checking out the undercarriage of the car personally, as something like that doesn't seem likely.
I'll likely just have my buddy at D'ambrogio go through it. There I can at least be involved in checking the car out. The only reason I considered Bimmerworks is that my friends schedule is kind of difficult.
If I can't work something out with him, I may check with your guy in WC Pete.
When I worked in the auto service business, I would have loved to have no 'waiter' appointments. If they can pull it off, more power to them.
