In other news. Just talked to brad who did an autox at FedEx field today and their lot is huge. Makes citizens bank look small. Said it was very well run relative to the Philly events. Not that anyone gives a $hit, just fyi.

it was shaking the wheel/dash so bad its hard to remember, but your actually right i dont think i felt it in the pedal. im converting the only video i have from today. i do have the set of CL's from last year that i way over heated...i could throw those on and go for a ride.

but take a look at this...is it just me or do you see spider cracks forming? 3 track days (250 miles)...but now that i look closer it does look like some bad deposits...

thats interesting and the first time i heard that somehow. i think overheating these rotors and the rc5+'s last year ruined my brake setup

anyway...overall good day.
-had the brake issue
-had some weird behavior from the rear end under heavy braking a few times (sliding?) even with a tad f rear toe in
-shifting above 6k leads to grinding going into 5th/down shifting into 4th...no idea if its clutch related or trans related, almost lock out ish.
-need to get rear diff bushes asap
-go pro was a ***** all day and basically recorded nothing. i think the wifi control and Harry lap timer arent getting along.
-the alignment saga of two weeks ago worked out, no ruined tires, temps were very good. but i think the thrust/steering angle may be off.

BUT i did PCD proud and got a trophy

that's definitely deposits on the rotors. you don't a lot of deposits to get brake shutter, just uneven deposits will do it. the spider cracks/heat checks are normal. i get heat checks after the first track day with centric rotors, and they'll last for another 15 track days after that. your rear moving around under braking is probably abs engaging. evo's use abs as rear brake bias. try a less aggressive rear pad compound. when the rear abs comes on, you wont notice it much in the brake pedal if any, but you'll fell the rear of the car moving around.

the shiny part closer to the center of the rotors looks good, but outer half of the rotor is deposit for sure. you can see the color difference.

congrats on the nguyen

That's because I just made it up .

Seriously though, I have hot spots on my outter edges of the rotors on my DD and brake shudder only under heavy high speed braking. And when I drive my Evo home from a track event, it's always the insides of the rotors that get cleaned off first.

That's where my theory came from.

The insides being the portions closest to the hub.

not sure i can get much less aggressive, im using stoptech streets on the rear. abs is tied into the ACD system isnt it?

lol. driving home at 50-80mph, i did a few somewhat hard test stops and it was nice and smooth, so i guess its only happening up over 100mph? front stretch yesterday was braking from about 120 down to 60, back stretch is redline 4th gear (110ish?) to 60-70ish and then turn 7 is top of 4th, slight application to set the nose.

ill have a vid shortly here.

It sounds like what Pete suggested: a combo of tire and pad compound abs and acd. It's very unsettling but you don't really feel anything in your hands like brake shudder, so them maybe it's not.

Maybe something's not tight in your suspension for that alignment you got?

I'm a pro so I know all about this stuff

wait...you're confusing me. ONLY feeling it in the wheel is more confirming of brake shudder/deposits isn't it? i think im reading that sentence like an idiot...

Don't examine my posts. They aren't backed by any extensive knowledge. To confirm what you already know, brake shudder is most obviously felt in your hands/steering wheel.

I'm just rambling. Don't mind me.

with brake shutter or flat slot tires, you'll fell the steering wheel shake like a **** and fells like you can't even turn the car while braking.

yup thats EXACTLY what it felt like. it ws like a learning tool, really made me focus on finishing braking before starting to turn in. you can hear it in the video...as well as 4th and 5th gear grinding

i just swapped out my pads and discovered my pass front outer cv boot has a tiny tear and it is flinging grease EVERYWHERE. and there was some on the sidewall...wonder how much i got on the tread...

I would get those rotors cleaned up.. It's def from uneven pad transfer or deposits. I would try being harder on them, that's worked for me in the past (to clean up shudder).

I didn't hear the grind, but in my experience that ish don't go away. Once it starts, the synchro is done. What fluid u using?

Slight fifth grind in an Evo is apparently normal. I would check for clutch drag first as you already noted.

My cv joint just had to be repacked and the clamps replaced. The boot was full of water from CTD. On the X's the cv boot clamps are another thing that gives it up early.
