Pulley is swapped out. Belt rides on the pulley a LOT better. Very happy to boost again! Back to logging and tuning!

Thanks again! Now back to the pain of logging and tuning.

A little progress. Through thinking outloud with Charlie, I think I've figured out some of my timing issues. All the tools together really help you troubleshoot. I was looking at my boost curve and saw that after I spiked, I was dipping down to about 17psi at 4100, then boost came back up to 19 by 4800ish, where I started knocking. I'm guessing that the lower boost was screwing with my timing curve. I've done some interpolation between my spike and 5000rpm. I'll check it out after work.

Riced out my engine bay a bit, but I couldn't pass up the price on these hoses.

Working on picking up some hood dampers and some Works Ride springs from a local guy. May have those on the car next weekend.

A smooth boost curve should definitely have a more stable timing curve. If its dropping boost due to error, its probably adding timing, then lowering again as it climbs back.

I don't have any correction on, but I hadn't done any real work with my WGDC. I just had 50 in after my spike. I hadn't noticed it was falling and then come back up.

I'm going to try to do a boost leak test and then maybe make some adjustments.

I did one log on my way home. Timing is nice and smooth. AFR is a little rich, but still above 11. I'll make some adjustments and report back.

Well, I have good news, and I have bad news. And they're both the same thing.

I finally did a boost leak test tonight. BOV is leaking. Only had it up to about 13-14psi. Coming out pretty well. Good news is that I have a boost leak and can probably make more power sooner. Bad news is that I have to spend money on a new DV. Oh well.

Edit. I'm wonder. At some point I was told to unplug the vacuum line going to the BOV. Does it matter?

Okay, I'm reading that maybe it matters. Dang. It had been a while since I'd done a test.

Okay, so I did another test right when I get home. Hooked the BOV vac line up to the compressor outlet. No leak.

BOV should be connected during the test and it should be hooked up to the intake mani.

Wondering about this. That is how I had tested it previously, and I never had a leak.

I would think that MIGHT give odd results, though. When boosting, the throttle plate would be open and the pressure would be the same through the system, but during the test, your throttle plate keeps the majority of the pressure "out". Couldn't the pressure difference give different results?

Either way, I may test it again at noon for kicks. Just takes a few minutes with the new intake!

Holy crap I just read the this entire thread and now my eyeballs are sore lol. I just started the tear down on my IX and was going to have the shop do every bit of the block and head work. Seeing your build though I might just do some research and assemble the majority of it like you. This is really good inspiration for DIYers. Good job and good luck with the rest of your work.

Nothing too crazy going on right now. I've been tuning and getting very frustrated. I've had plugs in my garage for a couple months and decided to change them. Turns out I was running 7s. Not sure how or why I did that. They were gapped at .026-.028. Almost 10k on them. Put in a fresh set of 8s gapped to .024. Car pulls so much better. I was having trouble tuning 23psi and up. I think this is going to help.

Updates soon! Hopefully a killer "stock" VD plot!

Edit: I was confused. I guess 7s are stock range, and 8s are one step colder. I'm guessing for 24-25psi running a colder plug would probably be okay.

Edit 2: It's running MUCH more consistent. Running a closer gap (even on the colder plug) is working out nicely. I'm going to buy a new set of stock heat range and gap them to the same and see how they do. I may pick up a set of iridiums and see how they run, too. Pretty cheap to try, especially if it'll let me have another degree of timing anywhere.
