Looks like she's coming back out. Seems I must have goofed when I put the 5-R synchro back together. I guess it's a learning experience.

Did a little work today. Getting the engine prepped to come back in. Turbosmart actuator came in. So sexy. I hope it performs well.

Hoping to have the motor back out Saturday.

I commend you for all the stuff with the transmission. I told myself that's one thing I don't care to know how to build or repair. I'll leave that to the experienced pros. Good luck getting it all going properly. Shep is quite awesome when it comes to offering advice and assistance, plus his stuff performs great.

When I have to have it rebuilt, I'll definitely send it his way, and I've told him so. He's been really good to offer advice.

At this point I've rebuilt the engine, turbo, and now have taken apart and put the tranny back together. Let's all hope my transfer case and rear differential hold up better. Geez, I haven't even modded the car. I just want to drive it!

Back out. Tranny off. Case split. I triple checked my installation on the 5-R slider/synchro. I just can't get it to pop over the spring to catch the gear. I think my slider is worn out. I sent a note to Shep to see what they think.

Here's a little eye candy. I think it's going to help my spool. I'm almost certain my stocker is shot.

I may have one other goodie to install since I'm going to have a little longer to wait...

AHHH! I got it figured out. I hope to have some visuals later, but I simply had the slider installed incorrectly.

There are 3 sliders on the trans. 1-2, 3-4, 5-R. When I was pulling everything back together, I managed to get 1-2 and 3-4 installed without taking the little assemblies apart. On 5-R, however, it didn't work out that way. There are 3 sets of 2 teeth on the slider that are slightly larger. I was installing them in the open spot on the synchro. There are actually gaps for them on the synchro gear. I feel dumb, but I don't care. I learned something.

Here's my really bad YouTube video. Please excuse the quality. It's really windy so my garage door was closed and didn't help my lighting. I'm not much of a cameraman and kept moving the camera off. But, you get a general idea of what happened.

Now I need to get new roll pins, assemble the trans, fix the threads for a starter bolt, remove a broken bolt for the clutch line bracket, patch my condenser, and then get it all back together. Not too bad.

Have been quietly following this build since day one and am a big fan. Everything is tastefully done and it's definitely inspirational for all of us DIYers.

If it makes you feel any better I made the slider mistake when I freshened up my 6 speed tranny. Fortunately, I ran it through the gears on the bench before installation and discovered the mistake.

Thanks! I appreciate everyone's kind words. Once I get her up and running and learn a little about tuning, I plan on actually putting on some fun parts.

You're a smart man. I have a bad habit of getting carried away. I saw the end of the tunnel and just went for it. Too bad. Oh well, lesson learned.

Got the double roll pins coming in from JNZ. Hopefully I'll make a lot of progress at the end of the week.

I've spent some time drilling and tapping the valve cover today. What a sucky task. The angle is a little odd to get just right. I think I have it down, now.

4 down, 16 to go...
