And none of those prices include the core charge. $1200. That nice expected price puts a hurting on an engine build budget.

$750 core on a 4g64. OK, he has one. How much to ship that to the builder? Will the machinest say its ok? Does he want oil squirters machined in? Little costs add up fast when building an engine. I just did it myself with a 4g64. But most applies to the 4g63 as well.

AggieEvo, to please the Evom crowd, can you please write down the cost of your built shortblock to the exact penny instead of just writing $3k? That would clear up a TON of confusion and lost sleep over this issue, thanks.

I don't see how it's that hard to believe that you can get a built shortblock for $3K.

I paid under $3K from MAP including head gasket, head studs and a free water pump adapter, with free shipping. People do it all the time.

PS Brady I'll respond as soon as I can to your PM.

I'm keeping track of how much this is costing. I'll put up a detailed list. I heart Excel.

Oh, I also did 5 minutes of work on the car today. Removed battery and cam gears.

I was being sarcastic, but it would be cool to see a total cost. I also have a big list of every part I've bought for my car and it's just above $20k right now and I'm on stock motor

Oh, I already have the list going. It's just a matter of posting it when it's done. I think I can have the built 2.4 in my car for under $1500 net.

Intake, fan, radiator are back off. Just had a few minutes to work. Hoping to pull the turbo and exhaust manifold a little later. I'll attempt to pull the head and IM in one piece.

Made a little space:

Happy I got it off in one piece. Saved the gaskets and bolts that way:

it would be nice if you came into some serious money since you have it all torn apart and could just do a full build... good luck with everything

I've been hoping to come into some serious money for the past 10 years, haha. I guess you have to play the lottery to win.

Well, my plan is MAP Ult Duty rods, undecided on pistons, but probably Wiseco. I'll reuse my ARPs. New head gasket and ACLs again everywhere. From what I've seen, it should put out 300whp/tq just like that. That'll be a nice power bump for me as it is. Eventually I'll do some bolt ons, but it should be a lot of fun "stock".

<<<<<<< Bought a car to part out and used the profit to fund my build. Obviously it takes some effort, but very minimal considering that your build will be 'free' at that point. It's not an option for everyone, but it's definitely worth mentioning.
