Drained the rest of the oil. No surprises so far. I'm hoping to get the lower timing cover pulled today. Not sure if I'll be able to get the front cover off, yet.

Water pump pulley off, timing cover off. Timing belt off.
Oil pump spins freely, but a little too freely. Crank doesn't move. I'll yank the oil pan and see what I can see. Crazy turn of events.

Well, I'll have a picture later, but I figured out pretty much what happened. Somehow the GSC balance shaft came off the gear. The big end is currently wedged between #3 and the girdle. So, not good.
My thoughts are to find a girdle and have the mains on the block cut to accept it, possibly having to go to oversized bearings. I'm sure i'll have to end up with new rods. I can't believe this.

So, things aren't all THAT bad.

This is the worst part:

So, instead of scrapping everything, I'm just going to button it up and see what happens. I have the stub shaft off the old motor. It doesn't make sense to me to just trash this and move on. If I run it for a short time and it blows, I'm in the same boat I'm in now. With the exception of the chance of taking out some valves

Bro I feel for you. I've been tracking your progress because I'm building mines as well in the garage. I'm done with the exception of the oil pump. Which is not fun when doing it in the garage. I'm all set except I decided to do balance shaft deletes while I'm in there and those 3 bearing don't want to come out at all. Thats the inly thing keeping me from putting it all back together. Oil pump is cheap so swap that out. Doing it with the engine in the car though is a pain in the ars!

I went by at noon and had a chat with my machinist. He's a really nice older guy that sat down and listened to what had happened. In the end, he convinced me that I just need to ditch it and pick up a new block. He said I may be able to get it up and running and that it may be fine for a while, but sooner or later, it's probably going to let go.
So, I hunt for a block.

Yeah, I believe so. I think I have a lead on some MAP 156mm rods.
I was really upset at first about all this. But honestly, if a motor was going to blow, I'd rather it be one that I built so I could learn that one I paid $3000 for and learned nothing.
