They have chemicals that are supposed to stop the rust. I used something but I can't remember the name. I wire brushed all the loose stuff off and applied the treatment. I used a putty knife heated with a map gas torches to remove the sealer. Sounds like you're doing fine, you just want to get it all out of there.

Any idea why that sealer stuff is there to begin with? Also there is some on the frame rail and fire wall. Should I remove that as well??

I just did the visible. All cars have it that I've seen. I imagine its there to prevent water intrusion into the seam causing eventual unibody failure

Boeshield T-9. It's quite honestly some of the best rust inhibitor money can buy... it's the best in Aerospace.

I hosed my car down before last winter when I was driving it to and from work.

i am not having fun today. none what so ever.

i started pulling the TC out of the car. i have had my axles 20 times before and that shaft always followed the driver axle out. well of course this time it has not done it. it is jammed in there pretty good. i do not have a slide hammer so i rigged up some of my tools that are now broken, cut, bent and its still in there. the transfer case is flopping around its so loose but i cant get it out due to that shaft. i never had to do this before so any tips would be great.

i scrapped all that sealer crap off though. that was my high light for today.

Mine always stays in. 20 seconds with a slide hammer and it comes right out. They are under $60 or I'm sure you could rent one from your local auto parts store. Right tool for the job makes things so much easier. Good luck dan.

i found a 13 piece set on E-Bay for 45 bucks. i am going to buy that. from the pics it looks like i can make a pretty cool tool for this job. i can make a nut that threads on to the end of the slide hammer and on the nut weld on a stud that will thread into the shaft on the car. this will make the side hammer 100% center to the shaft and should work really well. lets hope my theory works as good as it sounds.

i got a AutoZone right up the road. so ill go ''get in the Zone'' at AutoZone and see what they got

A bolt will thread into the shaft, I had a ton of stuff that fit just laying around lol. I used a piece that came with it, removed the knuckle from the shock to get a good angle on it and its out in seconds. If I try and fight all the **** in the way sometimes it comes right out sometimes I waste an hour. Since you haven't had to put the shaft in separate just remember the end with the threaded hole faces out

i threaded a bolt in there with a huge washer on it. i also have a 1 foot wrench i put the bolt threw and then threaded it into the shaft. i was hoping this would give me a ''pry'' effect if i hit the open end of the wrench with a hammer. well that wrench is now bent to about 50 degrees and with all my broken tools and parts is on my neighbors roof. i also tried putting a pry bar behind the washer that was on the bolt and prying it and after slipping off 3 times and bashing my knuckles into the ground i gave up and started spackling the rooms in the house that needed another layer.

Yeah it needs a very stout abrupt straight outward pull to get that c clip loose. I don't know if you've ever replaced it but sometimes they really open up making them really hard to get out.

I fought with one for 3 hours one night. Finally gave up and went to bed. Came out the next morning and it came out first try.
