Nice smooth driving. You know that track well. Way to let the scion have space and pass him on the straight instead of risking swinging out. Too bad not everyone thinks that clearly about scaring the beeegeeesus out of slower or beginner traffic, and passes on the second or two you lost there.

Its so pretty up there compared to my desert tracks down here!

I have a couple questions, if you don't mind answering them.

Do you have updated power numbers with the Magnaflow cat-back?

The AEM is a sealed intake, correct? I'm wondering how you were able to pull out 30+ more hp, if the stock box was already maxed out. Could it be filter related, or does the AEM have more surface area? They both feed off the same "snorkle" it looks like.

No updated numbers with catback. I should do some logs and see where it is.

At the time of tuning and logging and those v-dyno runs I was running the AEM intake with the lid off the box. I have since put it back on since I started tracking the car and it was getting toasty in there.

When I get some time, I'll log some pulls.

Couple updates!

Been laying low with the car since it was off track season for me because of summer heat.

However, I decided to break my own rule and go attend a track event yesterday at Thunderhill. I got lucky and it was actually a very nice day, 70's and mid 80's, but we'll get back to that...

I prepped the car for the track day a week or so ago. I put a couple bottles of Torque RT700 fluid through the system to freshen it up, swapped in the ST-43 brake pads, did an oil change and generally looked over the car to make sure everything was in order.

I noticed some slight abnormal wear on the rear drivers side tire. Took a look underneath and saw that the LCA was totally maxed out. It looked like the adjuster had slipped. Awesome. Long story short, the crappy eccentric washer had rounded out and allowed the slippage. I rushed to get some mazda eccentric washers in time, realized I had to get them shipped, install them AND get an alignment. Mixed with a busy work schedule, it was a bit of a stress ball.

Tuesday, realizing the chances of getting the washers in time for a Thursday scheduled alignment was looking grim, I said F it and ordered some Whiteline rear LCA's off Amazon. Received them Wednesday at 6pm and installed them that night. Thankful for Prime! Install was super easy. Took me about 1 hr including jacking up the car, taking the wheels off and putting it back down.

I picked the Whiteline bars because A. It was what I could get on such short notice and B. they are the only bars out there (minus Chet's) that actually get rid of the OEM eccentric bolt/washer setup.

Got the car aligned. Decided to add a little more negative camber in the rear to try it out. -3.0 front camber, -2.0 rear camber (was -1.8 before), 0 toe.

Track day

Yokohama Advan AD08R street tires, 255/35/18

Girodisc SS rear pads
Torque RT700 brake fluid

Overall:
This track day I brought an extra 5 gallon fuel jug of E85. So this time I lugged four jugs of E85 to the track with me. I did this to run a higher Ethanol mix than last time, (which was around E50-E60), to combat the potential higher summer heat. I ended up starting the day with a E78 mix.

Second lap of the first session of the day... F'in fuel starvation in left hand turns. FULL TANK. It was really bad, even in the not so high G left turns it would starve, hit 16 AFR and fall on it's face. Last event I wouldn't get fuel starvation until the 5th or so lap and after at least a 1/4 tank of fuel was burned. Needless to say it was super frustrating.

I started wondering why the fuel starvation reared it's head so quickly compared to last event. First of all, the car felt like it had more grip than last time, I was amazed about how much better the -2.0 camber in the rear felt. It was pretty obvious. So that is one thing different than last time. The other thing, I was running a higher ethanol mix.

So, I decided to fill what fuel was burned in session one with regular gasoline. This brought the car down to E68 or so for the second session. Went out. Same story. Fuel starvation in the second lap, on a full tank of fuel. I would do just three laps and then pull into the pits. Ughhhh, so frustrating.

Third session, same story. However, I decided to just work on being smooth with the car and without being able to go WOT out of most corners, I actually ended up getting my personal best lap time with the car to date! 2:07. Knocked a second off from last event!

Really happy with the handling of the car, not so much with the fuel situation. Imagine what it could do if I could actually go WOT out of corners??? A reminder, anything 2:05 or below is really fast on this track for a street car.

Forth session after lunch, I got the car down to E55 mix. Guess what? No fuel starvation for four laps, then it would only start doing it in the one place on the track that has about four left handers lined up. I was able to stay out the full 25 minute session. So obviously the car has a harder time keeping up in lefts with higher Ethanol mix and the crappy fuel tank design. Higher fuel demand = faster to show the problem.

Either way I was still frustrated and decided to call it a day and go home.

I guess it's time for a surge tank setup. I was really trying to avoid it. Oh well.

I also will be installing a AGP FMIC for next event. I had it delivered before this event but I just didn't have time to install it.

No video this time, sorry. I never event mounted the GoPro because I was too frustrated with the car.

Awesome, well not the fuel issue, but getting to track is getting to track. I haven't been able to. So I'm jealous. Rear LCAs. never thought of needing that. Interesting. I have had camber to out on track in the rear, but fighting everything down solved it then. At least in that moment. Nice details. Thanks

The CT9A has a much better design in the rear, even with using the same type of eccentric washers. I never ever had this issue with my Evo 8 that I tracked heavily.

Lots of bits like this with the CZ4A that make you ask, "did they even test this damn thing on track?".

OH, jeeeeez. I have been away for a while, and totally forgot you switched to a X recently. That makes more sense. One of these days I have to get to Thunderhill. Its a trek for me. Sonoma was the furthest North I have been. I also have fuel starve in the 9, but only if running half tank or less. Only running 91 though, hopefully to change soon.

Hi Bryan,

The AGP fmic will serve you well. I run that one my MR as well. Past logs showed 30* temp drops when trying some road tunes. Have fun

Okay, received most of the stuff this week. Started assembling the surge setup today. Also found a possible issue...

Installing Walbro 450 E85 pump into surge tank, man that assembly is a tight fit with the fuel sock. Hoping I didn't pinch the large surge tank lid o-ring.

Goodies ready to go. Radium surge tank with Evo 10 install kit, Easy Performance proggressive fuel pump controller, Airtex FS246 pump filter for OEM pump housing:

One thing I noticed about the Airtex FS246 filter is it looks just like OEM cotton like material and NOT like the E85 safe GM filter people have been getting. So I basically just wasted some money and now need to order the GM part #92220509. I was under the impression the Airtex filter was the same but it is not. Bummer.

Airtex FS246:
