razorlab's simple build(s)
Wild, guess our builds ended up even more similar than I realized. I too have been fighting oil consumption that has got worse. Head came off a few times blah blah blah wasnt the head ever and now motor is coming back out tonight. In my case rings are shot too which is really unfortunate. 2000 miles into the build to boot. Car runs amazing when working but couldnt keep her together this year.
I know you picked up your BRZ but perhaps consider holding onto the evo a lil longer and see if your attitude changes now that she's fixed.

Everything passed. It was super frustrating and such a waste of time.
On a whim we replaced the rings in cylinder #3 and now no more oil in the cylinder.
Started early on with oil on the back of a few valves. Assumed it was a head issue with valve stems. Replaced those ran it again and again more oil. Last leakdown the valves weren't sealing so once again pulled head. Head checked out fine so the consensus was the oil burning was creating a lot of carbon buildup that wouldnt allow the valves to fully seal. Once the head was disassembled and cleaned they didnt leak again. Car back together and still burning oil. Did another leakdown while valves were still sealing and results were 16% 11% 18% and 6%(something along those lines thats off memory) From there it was a question of where is the air escaping and in my case the side port on my VC was blowing air which is a sign its getting past the rings. Also, oil was getting onto my plugs which again, seems like rings is the only explanation for that. Im finishing pulling the motor tonight then gunna strip her down to short block and ship back to English for inspection. It'll be interesting to hear their feedback. I'll report back when I know more.
Strapped to a pallet it cost me $200 to get it there but that was bare block no crank rods pistons etc. Return shipping was $250 in an engine crate with the added weight of crank rods and pistons. So yeah I'll be out another $500 for logistics roundtrip...
Ouch. Hope youget good results!

I shipped my bare block to RED for sleeving in a plastic bin and it cost me $60 with insurance. I used about $30 in forming foam packing. So about $90 total.
