When you have your springs off, try to wiggle the valves and see how much play you have in the guides (shouldn't be any and should slide up/down easily). If you have slack, you may need to send it to a machine shop to install new guides. Make sure they know how to drill out the new guides. There are shops that don't spend the time to do this right (and over bore) and customers end up leaking oil as early as 1,000 miles.

I gave the head to RRE about 30k miles ago and they sent it out to whom ever they use so hopefully a competent shop.

Let the "While im at it"ing begin.

Pulled my FIC 1450cc bluemax low-z injctors and sadly my claims of no gunk problems are coming to an end. I will be sending these out for cleaning. Despite how these look I never saw any indicators that there was an issue. Either through logged WOT AFR's or fuel trims. It idled and cruised very well imo. I don't mean that for 1450cc low-z's i mean that if i didn't have the balance shaft delete I think it would have been just like a stock car.

How often did you flush w/91? And if you ran 91, how many tank fulls would you run it?

Thanks

Pull a spring off and check valve for play in the guide. Make sure that piston is at TDC so you don't drop valve inside.

I don't have a valve spring compressor yet, so ill have to wait for tools/parts to start digging deeper.

Too bad you're not closer. I have universal and the special tool just for evos to compress springs to remove keepers.

I love a good excuse to buy new tools it goes something like "Hey babe, i can buy this tool and do this myself, or i can send it to a shop and pay them $$$." works like a charm every time.

What a relief you caught it!
FWIW, I run a tank of 91 after every tank or two of 85. If I have no events coming up ,I will just leave the pump gas in. I do my best to never, ever store the car with 85, though I have, once.
I just pulled my 1450s yesterday and they are clean as a whistle.
Good to have a heads up that the gunk thing is still an issue. I was under the impression that it was over with and almost got lazy with the fuel swapping.
