Yah i was just throwing it out there, worst case i can always sell the S2's if I really don't like it.

Also, mine are MIVEC cams so not sure if that's comparing apples to apples.
It sounds like the S1's are alot like what i had then. MIVEC does complicate comparisons, but what im running is kind of different already so it might already be apples to oranges regardless.

Would hope to see you turn the EvO into your 2nd weekend car. I could never DD the EvO & continue to enjoy it
I love DDing my evo. It wouldn't survive as a project car in my stable, i already have other vehicles occupying those money pits. The evo really is my most practical vehicle. DDing it just means I can't mod it to the point it becomes as expensive as a side chick to maintain. Also i try to make it look like it would atleast maybe pass smog.

that reminds me of my mustang currently occupying said money pit

The RS is probably way more of a weekend car. I use to tease my cousin, who had an RS, when he would go to roll all the windows down. I called it "the poor man shuffle". I hope you have at least installed a stereo in it.

I found some magnetic metal shavings in the oil pan. It wasn't much, but im thinking i should probably do some more digging. I'm going to cut open the oil filter and see what that looks like. After that its probably the main caps. If anyone has any other suggestions that would be great.

You just have some metal from the cam breaking and then grinding on itself. I wouldn't worry about it. I only suggested you pull the pan to clean it out, not necessarily to see what was in there.

Thats what i figured too, especially after checking with a magnet. I just wanted to make sure the metal hadn't begun to circulate through the engine, which it appears it did not. That's one nice thing about this failure is that the engine stopped pretty much immediately.

Yeah. When you lost 3 cylinders, it stops fast. The time it takes for shavings to drop to pan is more than it takes for oil pump to stop. But to checking oil filter doesn't guarantee that no shavings made it to your oil pump gears.

Do you think I should pull the oil pump and inspect it?

No, that didn't make that much metal. When a turbo dies it makes more metal than what you likely found, and you find it in the filter when abturbo dies because they usually go slowly over time.. I'm sure the pump is fine.

I was kidding/teasing. I wouldn't go through that much trouble with this minor break.

Thanks for the advice guys. The turbo seems to be in pretty good shape. I'm going to test the seal on the waste gate flapper since that's a known defect. I couldn't find anyone who would work on this turbo for a reasonable amount of money, so if it is warped I'll probably have to replace the turbo.
