What are your plans for datalogging gear?

 

Always keep it local that way when they decide not to answer phones/emails you always have a door to beat on.

 

more progress. aside from door bars the cage is in an welded up. motor going in this week!



cross bracing to tie the cage into the front strut tower brace mounting point. we wanted to go all the way through but coulding get a clean way to do it.


brought my cousin in to help with some of the more visible welds. its weird having a younger cousin be able to vastly out perform you in something like welding haha

Dry ice works great for that too.

 

This might be a dumb question so excuse me if it is, are you going to paint the cage after? Since its all in do you have to paint the whole frame of the car and stuff at the same time?

 

we're going to paint the cage at a later date. right now our focus is: if it doesn't keep the car from running, driving and racing, it's not getting done.

 

I wouldn't paint it. Raw steel looks awesome polished up with WD40 and 7440 scotch-brite. And its much easier to repair if left raw.

 

crunch time on the car. i've been slacking at taking a lot of pics but here are a few from the last week or so.

obligatory wing shot. cut the mounts out of some 1/4" 6061. they feel alright but the fit wasnt exactly what we wanted so we'll redo them out of 3/8" this week.

 

12;30 am load up to get to the tuners wednesday.



we had a couple wiring gremlins which is to be expected when re-wiring the entire car. overall i was impressed how few we had as wiring scares and confuses me haha

we also got the carbon roof on last night and the doors but it was late and i didnt take pics


its at Throttle Works now getting tuned (fingers crossed we got all of the wiring issues sorted out). tonight we'll change the break in oil, put on the fenders and hood, get our ride heights set then scale it and try to get our cross close, scab some aluminum on the rear seat area to cover our fuel lines, and im sure there is a lot more!

It's been a LONG 48hrs. Had the car on the dyno and it wouldn't idle. Turns out I an idiot and plumbed the fpr incorrectly. Once that was fixed we started doing pulls. The car wouldn't build more than 17lbs - after messing with it for a few hours it was determined the ebc was not functioning properly. So we ran off of the waste gate only. At 17 lbs it made 390 HP on a mustang dyno. We were really happy with that. Our tuner stuck it out without through all of the teething pains getting the car going. Without them we wouldn't have been on the hill this weekend. If you are in idaho we highly recommend throttle works for your tuning needs.

So now it was 8pm Friday and the car was still not put together. Luckily we have a few good buddies that stuck it out until 3:30 am getting us going! It's awesome having good friends who will **** off their wives to help you out

We made it first event!





And we made all 6 runs. unbelieveable for a car that hadn't ever started a couple days prior!

To top it off as of Saturday night we're ftd with a 2 second cushion. The car had a LOT left in it. We are still sorting out suspension and learning how to drive the dang thing. It doesn't help that I haven't been in an asphalt car for 3 years - driving is a little rusty lol

To taking FTD at an event in under a week!? You guys make me feel like I'm bad at life.

Really impressive work across the board. I'm looking forward to more details just as soon as you catch up on sleep and get a chance to tie up loose ends on the car.

 

What kind of speeds were you seein? If i'm looking at it right it looks like the front bumper is the Foltex fiberglass kind? If so that "undertray" will rip itself off due to the weak glass rivit points ~110 or more mph. I've 'rebuilt' mine about a dozen times at this point .

 

they had a radar gun at the finish and we were 107.

it is a foltex (haha) bumper. Bryant has had it for a season or two and the undertray is already gone. the whole front bumper mounted is pretty janky at this point. we need to put some time into it. i got some 12mm expanded pvc sheet to make a splitter/undertray this week. hoping we have time to get it and a few other things done before we head to oregon next weekend. making it isnt going to be the hard part - making it semi easily removable to load in the trailer is going to be difficult
