That sounds not fun. Any tips or tricks, or just start pulling?

Liquid nitrogen instead of dry ice.

The inside firewall mat came out easy. Its just like a "rug" whcih has bolts and stuff holding it up against the firewall. Getting to all those plastic bolts/clips is the challenge. I just cut it out in sections.

The sound deadening on the floor and driveshaft tube I'll need dry ice or as mentioned LN lol

I was able to chip the asphalt from the floor. It came out a lot easier than I thought it would. There are a couple little bits left behind that I need to go back and get.
I suppose dry ice would have helped?
I will be tackling the firewall carpet pretty soon. Do you feel it weighs enough to justify removal? Anything over 3 pounds, I figure will add up eventually.

It was surprisingly heavy. I gotta remove the one on the engine side of the firewall also.

My engine comes out this week. I wonder if there's much heat transfer.

Looking for meaningful feedback here.

Since Ive got the motor out I am thinking of removing the head. It seems no catch-can and having EGR has left some build up on 1 or 2 of my valves.

I am contemplating pulling the head, getting more porting + polish, valve job, and swapping cams to Kelford 272. I also think welding the EGR port IN the runner could be possible. Also doing full EGR delete, phenolic spacer which I ordered from English, and ARP stainless studs/bolts.

Here are the images of each port on exhaust. Need input here.

Looks normal to me too. Catch can won't do much more than that.

No benefit from what I was planning? Just feels like I should do as much as i can while i have an opportunity. I dont like intake cylinder ones gook on the valve. Plus welding of the egr from the runner, better cams, and further port n p. I will be doing new timing belts water pump, and whatnot too.

Do you have to pull the motor as well as all the crap bolted to the firewall to get the engine bay firewall mat out? I was hoping to do that as a simple project by cutting it out in pieces but seems like its actually more involved than just cutting it out.
