Whats your perception on the 4.11s now that you have more power?
The 4.11 is really nice for the flat lands of Florida and the road course but still needs a stroker and a responsive turbocharger.
The Evo was built for the rally and the short 4.53 final drive makes it fun to drive but you are constantly shifting.
With a stroker and 450tq+ the 4.11 is fantastic.
If you have hills or a 2.0 I would stick with the stock fd and adjust tire size.

Cool, this was my assumption as well. We're a stroker (was a 2.3, working on 2.2 replacement) and for AX we are constantly sitting on revlimiter at 66-67mph with our 450tq.

I would upgrade it or run a taller wheel/tire combo. If you build an engine then put some compression and lightweight parts in it. Having the head professionally ported will also help if your class allows it. I had mine done at HeadGames and am pretty happy with the results.
Sidenote ,Five years ago yesterday I bought this stock Evo. This is actually the first picture I took of it with my trusty iphone 4.. It was nice to start with a fresh canvas and paint the picture I wanted . Each and every modification it picked up power or handling . Alot has changed over five years but this platform continues to deliver an amazing Fun per dollar ratio. From 250whp to 650whp its been reliable and rewarding to drive on the street, road course,1/2 mile and drag strip. Thank you to Jay, Geovannie, Mark and everyone at Real Street Performance that had a hand in this build 101165 miles
awesome thread Tim. How reliable has your car been at +600whp?
Thanks man. Its been fine aside from a small oil leak with the old ams pan. I changed to the Race fab pan and its dry. This car is a toy so it gets driven hard about 3 times a week each and every time I'm out. I purposely chose a "soft" clutch (act 6 puck sprung) and "ok" tires that will give a little instead of transferring the shock into the drivetrain. The 4.11 FD calms the gearing down a bit and less chance of wheel spin or hop to shock things.
I've also got lightweight wheels/tires/rotors to keep rotational weight down. I typically run about 600/475 around town on E85. The tune is perfect and I always let the car warm up before beating on it.
I've powerslid the car a number of times in 1st and 2nd and launched it about 15 times at moderate power. I expect the clutch to go about 10-15K miles before needing a new disk. That is a little shorter then some people but I'd rather replace the disk then drivetrain parts. A twin disk is noisy, expensive, heavy and wears on the trans. I also do some auto x and roadcourse events.
This platform performs really well when planned out and respected. I think a 600-750whp Evo (maybe a GTX3582R) lives a long life and is alot of fun.
Update, Car has been running well. Weather is cooling down so I'll be driving it more then 2-3 times a week and have some track days planned.
I performed the quarterly boost leak test ( none) and replaced my aging K series coils with new ones. Strapped the car to the dyno and with great air ( 63 DA , 65* degrees) Made three quick pulls up to 26.5psi. Cranked out 552whp. The dyno had a brake issue and It passed the check up with flying colors so I was finished.
On the way home I ran it at 30-31psi and moved well. It was pretty hot this past summer so the cool air is refreshing.
G'day Tim, I just finished reading your very well documented Evo transformation, epic work & congrats on having a dream build mate. Loved every bit of detail you presented.
Thanks guys! Car has been running well. Took it out to the Daytona Autocross event recently . My Street tires weren't happy about what was taking place. They seemed to have less grip then last year so I had to slow it down. This was low boost.
A few small changes for the Evo taking place. I was offered some money for my DD Acura and took it. As much as I wanted to step into a something else german I decided to be conservative for now. Picked up a 22K mile Golf R with a few mods from a buddy of mine. He clipped off an 11.9@112 earlier this year with heavier wheels/tires.
The sound and bluetooth systems are phenomenal. Ride quality is ok and may need to be addressed. Power and the DSG are dialed in pretty well for a street car.
