Car and Driver Supertuner shootout competitors
Check out who we are going up against next month's at C&D's 2004 Tuner Shootout. This isn't the 4-banger only test they had last year in CA. They are back to doing the real deal, cost-no-object thing again. And we're right in the mix with our Stg 2 EVO.
Our Competition:
Lingenfelter (most likely some ridiculously powerful C5 vette).
RennTech (guessing some 700hp Benz)
Mosler (a Raptor I'm guessing)
Hennesey (probably a twin turbo Viper)
Active Autowerkes (probably a turbo E46 M3)
Mallet (another stupidly powerful Vette)
Ruf (a disgustingly fast Porsche)
Som twin turbo 360 Modena
A Ferrari Enzo (as the baseline stocker
)
That's all I recall from a conversation I had with a C&D editor today. We are the only 4-banger in the competition. We were invited as the bang-for-the-buck "spoiler" according to Larry Webster. Should be painful!

Painful, yeah, hopefully for them!
Shiv, I give you permission to stop doing whatever it is you're doing and get the car ready for azz whooping mode.
I think you can leave the trailer hitch behind this time though, OK?

But seriously, what do you plan on changing and improving on from your One Lap setup (besides removing that lovely hitch)? What do you see as your weakness against this line up? Braking? Acceleration? Top Speed? Cornering? What is the format for the competition?
Is there a fix for your downforce issues? I'll bet if someone could find a way to make our non-adjustable wing adjustable, it would help.
Finally, what do you realistically think your chances of wining this thing are?
The more details you can give us the better. We are all behind you man (well, most of us)!

The car is going to enter outfitted just like it was for One Lap. It wasn't broke so there is nothing to fix
However, we're working with BFG (who, we just found out, is going to use our One Lap EVO for their new upcoming tire ads!) on getting wider rubber on the car. We're also hoping to have some more aero work done (front splitter). That's about it.
As for winning, there is little or no chance. The 0-150mph test is going to kill us due to aero/drag issues inherent with the EVO. Can't compete with a 700hp Vette running a Cd of .29. The several seconds we'll lose above 120mph or so is going to be tough, if not impossible, to make up in the other portions of the test (1/4 mile, road course, braking).
Well, that's my take on it so far... we'll see

That is great news!!!! So this is kind of like the other story they did w/ stock exotic cars and used the evo as a spoiler, and it actually did if I remember correctly..
GOOD LUCK SHIV!!!!!!!
No rear underbody aluminum piece to help stop the high speed crawl? Don't let the 100+mph tests go to those highly aero tuned cars when some underbody paneling under the rear bumper can make a huge difference..
Even a quick panel installed in a hurry (kinda like a certatin Gurney flap) can help tremendously with those top speed runs.

I don't think it's a fair competition to compare Evo with those supercars.
Even if the chances of slim, I'm proud of our 30k Evo being invited to compete with those supercars.
I'll loved to know how the Evo hold out. Keep up the good work, Shiv.

Awesome... As I mentioned in a post a few months ago, Shiv's tuning for the SCC $30K v. $80K (C4s, M3, S4) was the final straw that convinced me to get the Evo. I love when the Evo is compared to Exotic Supercars. And now in a more "mainstream" magazine. Good luck!
