No problem. Hopefully you were able to get running today and turn some laps.

For MMP I would run 19psi max, with NO timing and LOTS of fuel. No boost FTW! The fastest evo guys there run about 17psi (or stock everything). Most of their cars run Tein super racings and stock sways. Boost != speed.

21-22 psi is anything but conservative on pump gas w/o h2o or alky. Its on the ragged edge of the knock threshold.

The race Evos are only running 17 PSI?

Yes, Vesko got it fixed by about 11 AM. I was out turning laps after lunch.

Thats so sweet. Hopefully the temp fix keeps you out there all day tomorrow too!

Lara's black car is running 17, the rest are bone stock powertrain (at least the ones setup by our favorite bulgarian). Soon to be ficker flashed...LOL!

This is 17 and holding to redline right? The way I understood it (and it may have been wrong) is that the main problem with 21-22 is if you have it hold, whereas mine tapers to 16-19 around redline. Heck, that's how Christian explained it to me when he was talking about an EBC in my car cuz he said maybe just 18 psi and I was confused and he said it would hold to redline and that the higher psi aren't safe at the higher rpms.

The stock turbo will never hold 20+psi to redline. If it were going to, it would do so with an MBC, but as we all know it does not. Mine runs up to about 19, then back down to 17ish. Anyone that says their stock setup holds 20 to redline is lying.

High psi at high rpms isn't necessarily a bad thing (but is harder on the motor), but above 21 at any rpm is reaching the limits of pump gas.

Mitsubishi sized our turbos so they would taper off at higher rpm, probably on purpose. I mean if you are unable to run max boost at redline, that will eliminate some warranty claims (not that they honor them anyway!).

COBB is your best bet evodrivesme

And "temp" is temporary not temperature Brandon

Ah, I always wondered how mitsu set it up to taper, so the turbo is just too small?

Yeah, sorry, temporary, not temperature. VTECH FTW!!

Well, that depends on how you look at it. The turbo is perfect size for mitsu and their goals (imo). Its too small for flowing the air needed to keep 20psi to redline if that is your point of view. Its also great sized for spool up and mid-range power, which is great for the kind of racing we do.

I might go a touch larger, like the FP or some variant of the 20g, but thats big enough for me. I dont want to loose any area under the power curve.

you know you want a 42r for all those freeway pulls you do every friday and saturday night.

oh and mike besides your temporary problems, have you had any issues with heat? I am paranoid about catching my car on fire.

I didn't mean too small for what we use it for, I just meant the main cause of the taper is too small of a turbo, not a BOV, or tune, or some other thing like many others seem to believe. I wouldn't go bigger than a 20g either, midrange ftw (hence the S1s instead of some crazy 280s), and I'm still leaning towards just a TME 6.5.

Maybe you shouldn't let Joe work on it anymore then eh Brandon?
