Car and Driver Comparo is out
I don`t think its a big deal, if you want a RA your probably only comparing it to a subaru.
This is a first year car and will improve with time. I wouldn`t be surprised to see bigger brakes and different tires next year and it wouldn`t be a big deal to retune for 20-25 hp. Subaru stepped up and changed their car but they could possibly now cut into STI sales.
I`m surprised that there isn`t any R32 comparisons.

I will be happily surprised if mitsu improve the RA at all..
The WRX remains an astonishingly butt-ugly car, though at least Subaru hasn't (yet) cursed it with a Mazda smiley-face to go with that hideous hood scoop. No amount of mods can hide that ugliness.
That being said, the WRX is a better car for racing on dry asphalt -- suspect the Ralliart would outperform it on a proper rally course, though (given proper rally tires on both cars, of course). Also, the WRX has a definite advantage when passing, since other drivers will be distracted by their own laughter, at how ridiculous a WRX looks coming up in their rear-view mirror.

on the front end. I think they were on the right track with the larger grill but it ended up happy instead of intimidating like the new Lancer. I don't think any front lip is going to make the new MS3 look more fierce with that GRIN

As for the rest, Subaru is currently the only manufacturer to increase sales this year, so obviously the majority of the public like the new look.

How so? The WRX has more suspension travel which is what you want on a dirt track. Subarus regularly get bashed for this. The same was true of the STI, it wasn't as fast as an Evo at the track but on dirt/gravel/bumpy roads it really shined.

Subies are great cars if they could definatively prove to me they have their reliability problems banished. I would have purchsed one.
It was a painfull to findout that at 35k the dealership was debating putting a new engine in my 05 OB/XT when it was using 2litres of oil per 1000km.
Truth be told, The RA is a better deal up here in Canada than the WRX even though the WRX has 30 more HP.

By that logic the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry should be the nicest looking cars on the planet. You know very well that WRX sales are a miniscule part of those numbers as most are Legacy, Forester, and base Imprezas. NASOIC is about 70% in it's hate for the new designs and that's the target audience for the WRX and STI. Personally I think the 09 WRX and STI are the best looking versions to date but that's more because IMO the last gen cars are grouped with the Pontiac Aztek as ugliest vehicles of the last 20 years.
