Good Review From Top Gear
Source? This thread is just amazing. People are getting so butthurt by data provided by independent and reputable sources. Data that has been available for years and that ultimately says nothing about whether their car is right for them. Amazing really is the only word. Now continue with your illogical arguments, they are quite amusing and certainly provide support for your position.

To everyone who reads this thread:
Don't forget who you are talking to, a Miata owner, who has never driven these cars. All his statements are based on what "he heard from that one guy that one time...in band camp'". Call me crazy, but I put personal experience far ahead of Internet speculation.

Everyone says the same thing everytime he shows up (about every 3 months). What we all need to realize is that Amby is a Grad Law student, his whole life revolves around arguing and source quoting. To him, none of this means anything, other than the pure joy of ruffling feathers and being "the winner".
Think of the guy opposite Tom Cruise in 'A Few Good Men'...and then place him in a pink Miata.

Right. So let me get this straight. You would rather rely everything on data, numbers. You would decide a superior car purely based on quarter mile times and skid pad. It's idiots like you that ruin car forums, short sighted people that look no deeper than the skin of the automotive world. Good luck to you, expert.
BTW if you took your time reading rather than writing up 13000 useless posts, you would be recognized as less of an idiot. Just my 2 cents.

Butthurt, aka, getting irrationally upset over something minor. That applies to this thread. People are getting upset because the WRX outperforms the Ralliart in stock trim. A fact that is not a big deal yet people have blown it to epic proportions.
well this was 20 minutes of good fun.
I am with amby though... sorry guys, not saying you bought the wrong car, its personal preference but, STOCK VS STOCK, the wrx comes out on top on all test. Sure you can argue as much as you want by saying oh well put some better tires. But then thats not stock anymore.

Here is what Amby said (in a nutshell):
1). Out of the box, the WRX is a better performer. (probably true)
2). The WRX is lighter, which gives it a totally different set of handling characteristics (making it tough to judge which is "better"). (true)
3). Once you start modifying the RA, which everyone here has done, it becomes impossible to judge which is "better". (very true)
My offhanded comment was a humorous attempt to poke fun at those who would blindly defend the RA, which is what a lot of you are doing. The RA is not that good, out of the box, which is something that most here should know by now. However, once you start playing with it, it makes no difference. Nothing here was a dig at anyone who owns a modified RA. The simple fact is that that seems to be the natural course of events in the lifetime ownership of an RA. They can be a ton faster. You can get them to handle a lot better. If Mitsubishi had done all of that from the factory, what fun would it be to buy one for the purpose of "tuning" it? None.
The other problem is that people are giving, in my opinion, too much credence to Top Gear. They are entertaining, but they often get car reviews wrong. They leave out tuning potential, which is really what this forum is interested in. Therefore, Amby and I get the impression that this thread was going to turn into an RA circle-jerk. The reality is that Mitsubishi royally screwed some aspects of this car, from the factory, which doesn't usually net it good reviews. I was never under the impression that this car was particularly good at much, besides commuting, from the factory. I ripped everything out of my RA for this very reason. For me, it wasn't about factory performance. I am a big fan of the RA community. And yes, I can be a dick, from time to time. I just get really frustrated when I feel like other members and I aren't on the same page. I could frankly care less what this thing could do from the factory. The fun of modifying cars is correctly problems in an intelligent manner. I did this with my brakes, my gauges, my transmission, etc. I love solving problems. That is why I am here. I am not kidding myself that even my car (X) is somehow the end all be all.

The car does have it's flaws (as with pretty much any other vehicle on the road), but negating those flaws is part of the fun in modding.
