Let's see your fully tuned timing maps
i hope you didn't upload the complete Ralliart rom
, nice effort thoughLast edited by SPAWN; Jul 15, 2008 at 09:29 AM.
Sometimes with cams ive seen it necessary for tuners to bump idle timing a little but agreed with first hand experience that too much idle timing will cause a P0300 code

My car is a Euro spec Evo 8. Mods are:
AEM intake
APS intercooler
stock turbo with 10.5 housing
Stainless o2 housing
3" TBE with sports cat
around 23psi to 6000rpm then dropping to 20psi.
Tephra V5.1 96530006
99 RON fuel (93 or 94 US octane)
The first map is with GSC S1 cams. I always got inconsistent knock with these cams. I could have a clear run then one with 6 counts then one with 4 counts etc.
My tuner recommended I try good old HKS 272s as he always had consistent results with these. The second map is with the HKS 272s and resulted in a 35 lbft and 20hp increase and never more than the odd 1 or 2 knock counts. Look how much more timing I could run with the HKS cams.
The 3rd map is with the HKS 272s with 50/50 water/meth, 29psi at 4000rpm dropping to 22psi. This gave a further 50lbft and 25hp.

I use the AEM water injection kit with 630cc/min nozzle. Here is a dyno graph. I don't know how these numbers would relate to US dynos but power wise, without water injection, my car is about the same as other similarly modified Evo 8s. I don't know of anyone else in the UK using water injection so I can't compare these figures with anyone.

Why is it you always have some "funki-ness" going on in the 140-180 load column timing? Seems like with the way your map is set up, you would floor it, feel the acceleration rate slow down a bit, then all the sudden take off.
Me personally, in the 50/50 map, I would smooth that out, a lot. Maybe you have it set-up like that on purpose?

I run more cc/min than that and I can't run near that timing... even on 25psi. Not to say that it can't be done... but I'm a bit skeptical.
Here's what I'm going to VIR with tomorrow:

Thats 23psi, 11.2ish AFR, WI, FMIC, I/E/cams. (full mods found on website in sig)
Still workin' on my MBC/GM BCS hybrid. Works nominally so far but this blasted taper is still getting to be too much for me.
I'm having a hard time keeping my 5* timing near peak torque even when I'm seeing no knock so I had to block it a little bit. Whenever I get some time I need to check my timing against a timing light... I can't afford to run 0* or negative timing any more... melting my exhaust system was no fun.

I would be skeptical too but here's the evoscan log from the dyno graph. Not on the log is AFR as we were using the dyno wideband. AFR is 12 from 3500 to redline.
