nice thread, I just bought my 05 EVO VIII and will probably go this route. I'm proficient with the greddy e-manange on my Stealth but this is good bang for the buck.
one question.. are the numbers in the A/F map really the a/f ratio? I see 14.7:1 in the idle/cruise section so it appears to be but good god 9 and 8.0:1 afr at WOT??? that's pig stinking rich. With a stock EVO what AFR are people leaning theirs out to? and what kind of gains are they seeing? I would like to tune by knock, how could I do that?
I think I would only tweak the high octane map and leave the low octane map exactly where it is so that if I have knock it'll be able to counter it effectively. Setting both maps the same would be foolish in my opinion.

Chris, I have followed your build over on Tremek nice to see you over here. Those AFR's are target AFR' and are affected by a few variables. For the most part on an otherwise stock car they are off by about 1.5-2 points. It seems (at least for me, your results may vary) to hold fairly constant with one or 2 other things that can modify between that range. I wont hit with all the intricate stuff off the bat, but its not really that rich.

Mine had the same issue, then it would find and install the software but it's annoying because it does this EVERYTIME it is used. Make sure you have the latest version of ECUFLASH downloaded.
Hey John, where do I download the Ecu Logging software?

in the first post by the thread creator there is attached what might be a stock 05 evo rom. Can someone confirm that?
I bought this 05 evo a few weeks ago and don't know the history of it, so I was comparing the attachment to the a/f and timing maps I pulled from the ECU and mine are much more aggressive. Several degrees more timing and about a full point leaner in the a/f map.
No wonder it was knocking it's *** off. I have to wonder if the previous owner had a alky/meth kit or was running race gas because it isn't working for pump gas. I've since lowered the timing so it isn't knocking anymore.
I want to load the attached "05 evo rom" to my ECU, would I just need to change the immobilizer code to match mine?
btw, my car is stock with the exception of a CAI and MBC and since the A/F and timing is less aggressive than my current tune, it should be safe.

Yes that is definitely an 05 rom. To use it, just like you had figured out you need to alter the immobiliser on the map to match yours.
The flash that you had was only a few degrees more advanced than the 05 that we are talking about from the beginning thread, or are you referring to something else? 3-4 degrees more than that shouldnt knock too bad at stock boost. Depending on what the AFR targets were, if there were any other mods to the fuel system, lean spool (I know its a favorite of mine but maps look different when its disabled), 1 full point from stock typically isnt enough to make it knock. Lots of variables. Do you mind posting the .hex? If you think it might be a vendor map you could also post a screenshot of the areas in the map that you are specifically wanting to know more about.

didn't do it with the older version. Did you get that issue figured out? At first I thought it was my lappy since the same version in my friends lappy works properly.
Let me know, and if I get it figured out I'll post up
Thanks
nice write-up/thread.
edit:
I was just comparing my "stock" timing maps with the ones posted, and mine are WAY higher. Whereas my lower right numbers are 16 (low), and 19 (high). Is this a stock tune? I just bought the car a few weeks ago, and Im trying figure out exactly where I stand with everything..

yeah if i had to buy a used evo today and suspected it was modded, first thing i would do is either get it flashed myself w/ the correct immobilizer # or just ask the dealer to do a flash incase....
good chance they'll do it as a warranty work
