Read through this trying to understand it all. 2005 EVO 8 Tephra V7 on SD sensor. Every time smog comes around I put everything back to stock and flash the tephra AFM rom. Worked in 2016 and 2018 but now I know things are different. My biggest problem is if I flash the stock rom I end up with the dreaded P0300 code. So I'm pretty much between, fail for CVN not matching due to modifying the rom to not check for P0300 or Fail on a stock rom for P0300. Great.
Assuming you've checked the normal items, I've seen a bad O2 sensor cause that code. It was grounding out and causing weird thinks to happen. Didn't make sense to me, but a Google search came back with one similar story.
I still think it could have been a coincidence, but changing it out did help.
I only mention it because it seems to be the off the wall problems that cause the most grief.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Just want to give biggiesacks, kaj, cdrinkh20 and razorlab massive props for your work on this thread.
I’ve been blissfully enjoying stand-alone tuning for months but I knew I had to get my game ready for smog when the time comes. I’ve been dreading this, but you’ve been very helpful describing how to move forward.

Hey Biggie, have you found the CVN info for the 03/04 yet? Ive searched that EPA site many ways to try to find it but I cant.
No, I was never able to verify it first hand. I did pass smog with CVN 0000A1E4, which is what the reportedly stock 94170015 roms on the interwebs spit out.
There is one caveat, my smog was in Q1 of this year. While Evo's were obviously part of the pilot program for all this (been getting popped for a while now), I think there is still a chance this could be the wrong CVN and might fail going forward. So far though I haven't seen any 8's reporting getting ECU tampering flags.....so no news is good news I guess.
