k. I said to myself that I will "take one for the team" so I took my car to get smogged. Mind you that I have a 2003 Evo 8 that just came out in 2003 ( not sure if that matters). I have the Works P2 with an extra tweak for the P0300. Also an aftermarket inlet pipe. Guess what................: Paaaaassssssss

Don't be surprised if you are now flagged for state ref next time you have to smog.

Also since this is the first year, I'm pretty sure that C.A.R.B. will really be a lot more strict in the future. But as for now.......2 more years of 20mpg

Thanks for sharing warpspeed21, that's another data point in favor of the 8 being exempt from this test. Just FYI though, there is still enough data that you didn't block out to identify your registration. Then there is the barcode....which could literally be scanned from a screen into the dmv database to pull up your info. You might want to delete the pic and kindly ask these other folks to take down their reposts of it. Just my .02 though, doesn't seem like you are terribly concerned.
Aren't all the news articles saying that pretty much all OBD2 cars will be checked, or something close to that? And are we assuming people are safe if not notified during inspection? I thought everyone passed and only found out later that they were flagged.
I haven't been following super close, so assume I missed a key post or two.

I'de like to think we are a little ahead of the curve on this one. Most of the articles I have read either don't have the full story, or don't want to get into the details of what's going on. Below is the proposed implementation of this new check from 2019, which spells out how it works. I haven't read any articles going into the level of detail this document provides (including the email of the guy that spearheaded this whole thing ). Anyway, there is good info to be gleamed from this document. We know how this new test works, we also know that not all obd2 vehicles even support calid/cvn ( the Service $09 stuff specifically ). I believe they weren't introduced until the 2002 version of the J1979 standard (j1979_200204). I could be wrong about that but anyway the 2003 evo does respond to service $09 requests. There is some lingo in the document though that you could infer some stuff from.
Page. 7 "• Inspections cannot be completed without retrieving data from vehicles capable of providing this information "
"Focus in initial phase of implementation on vehicles likely to be modified and vehicles where the allowed CVN and Cal-ID are clear and obvious"
