FP Black Ball Bearing tested - documentary results inside.
my retainer clip popped out and now i have to drop the transmission. I dont know if it popped because the clutch fork stop wasnt close enough due to the first launch at the track or what.
i heard from Will you were running a custom clutch to test its abilities?
Out of your experience what would you do?
the first pass i made when i went into 3rd gear it felt like i didnt get the car into gear.. it just went in like the gear was gone so i hesitated to give the car gas and it was in car so i just continued the pass.
is this thing going to keep happening if i stay with a pull style clutch even if i put the fork stop like a mm away from the fork arm?
i hate asking you all this, but you have more experience then most people on here.
Not "officially" dyno'd. did 596 on Buschurs dyno, not messing with the tune too much or killing the boost, it was a little over 30, we we just chasing a bug the car had, Buschur reaplaced my Hobb switch and the lean issue ive had for months is gone. I will get to the dyno soon as a few more details are taking care of.
As for clutch's ive been working with Carbonetics with there single carbon blade system, as of now it's been by far the best clutch ive used for an Evo, in my opinion there is no perfect clutch available for the EVO, there is the stock clutch which drives perfect and then theres a Tilton carbon which shifts and launch's perfect but only last a 100 passes and sounds like crap under decel. All the clutch's inbetween make the car sound like a pile of crap or do not shift or hold the power(also pop the queer clip).
Then there is the Carbonetics Blade, at $1299 you get a complete system and it's push style and sprung. Holds over 30 psi on the BB Black, drives like stock(no noise), shifts better than a twin and won't leave you stranded with a popped clip. it did twelve aggressive autocross launch's no problem, it did however slip on a 6200rpm 15 psi launch on my car running the black at 28 psi, I will be working with them to solve this so people finally after 11 years of Evo's being around have a AFFORDABLE real clutch to buy.

A non-multiplate clutch that holds power and doesn't sound like a bunch of ninjas and samurai having a sword fight for less then 1500.........HERESY
600 hp Evos are also well into 5th gear by the end of the 1/4. They also don't bog and get non bog like 1.7 60fts, they also trap well over stock turbo like 95mph in the 1/8, they also trap higher then stock turbo evos, etc etc etc etc

The clutch situation on the evo is a disaster. I really hope this single blade works out!!!!!
I've been running this clutch for about 12k miles now. Drives like stock. Smooth engagement with little chatter if any and launches my car with authority. I'm very happy and even more so now to see somebody like Curt endorsing it. I highly suggest the Carbonetics setup. Good to hear they might be working on something to hold more power as well.
